Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Approves Allocation of 2023 SPLOST Projects and Greater Gwinnett Place Urban Redevelopment Plan

On June 6, the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved an allocation of more than $759 million in 2023 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) revenue, with 73% of the funds going toward transportation and parks projects.

The transportation project list was developed by a 15-member Citizens Project Selection Committee over the course of 10 meetings held since last fall. The projects cover enhancements to transportation that include upgrades to major roads and intersections, bridges, pedestrian safety, resurfacing, unpaved roads, speed control in residential areas, and school safety.

GPCID staff worked with members of the committee to secure funding for many transportation and mobility projects that will benefit the Gwinnett Place area. The included projects cover enhancements to major roads and intersections, bridges and pedestrian safety. Many of these will improve infrastructure and transportation in and around the Gwinnett Place Mall site in support of future redevelopment.

These projects were based on the findings of the Gwinnett Place Area Mobility and Traffic Study which was developed and funded by a partnership between the CID and Gwinnett County.

The CID is thankful for the efforts and support of the Citizens Project Selection Committee and Gwinnett County DOT.

On May 23, the Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted the Greater Gwinnett Place Urban Redevelopment Plan. With this approval, GPCID’s consultant, KB Advisory Group, will finalize the Opportunity Zone redesignation application and submit it to the Georgia Departments of Economic Development and Community Affairs for review.

Cops on Donut Shops and Gwinnett County Police Department School Drives

On Friday, June 2, Gwinnett County’s Central Precinct raised more than $2,800 for the Georgia Special Olympics at the Cops on Donut Shops event at the Dunkin’ Donuts 3275 Club Drive location in the district. We are grateful to have the support of our local police department in our district and the community at large.

“We’re excited to support our community and make ourselves known as allies to this cause,” said Major Terry Werho. “We’re proud to have participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Georgia Special Olympics for multiple years, and hope to continue as one of the leading fundraising precincts in Gwinnett County.”
The Gwinnett County Police Department’s community outreach continues now through July 28 for another worthy cause: Gwinnett Police are helping prepare students for the 2023-2024 school year and request your help by participating in their school supply drive!

Residents are encouraged to drop off donations Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Donation boxes are located at the Gwinnett County Police Headquarters, Gwinnett County Police Training Center, and all Gwinnett County police precinct lobbies.
