Note from the Dean
It was wonderful to see so many Vanderbilt Owen alumni at reunion – it is a special time of reflection and celebration. I was honored to award Adena Friedman, CEO and President of Nasdaq, with the Distinguished Alumni Award. Adena was in my very first class at Owen in the winter of 1992, and I knew from that time that she had a unique spark and drive. Adena has been a gracious volunteer servant leader for Owen for many years. Recently she was Owen’s 2017 commencement speaker and her speech was lauded as the best business school commencement speech by Poets&Quants, a leading online publication covering business schools. Adena has also served on my Board of Visitors and contributed to the Owen community by engaging our students and faculty.

It was also gratifying to see Heiki Miki receive the Vanderbilt Alumni Volunteer Award. Heiki has represented the Owen School around the world.  His leadership in Japan has met with much success, building a strong Vanderbilt network in Tokyo and bringing many wonderful Japanese students to Owen. A highlight of my last two trips to Asia has been the warm reception in Tokyo. I look forward to joining Heiki again this December for Closing Bell Tokyo!

Best,
Eric
