A look at what's happening at UT Health Sciences

U.S. News & World Report has included three UT Health Sciences programs near the top of its national graduate school ranking lists for 2026.

All three programs are the most highly ranked in their categories among public institutions in Tennessee.

The College of Medicine Class of 2026 gathered with family and friends for Match Day on Friday, March 20, to find out where they will train as resident physicians. Of the 169 total students who matched, 71 are staying in Tennessee, and 59 are staying at UT Health Sciences for the next stage of their training.

The Tennessee Rural Health Care Center of Excellence awarded seven grants totaling $1.75 million to agencies across the state to help close health care gaps in rural communities. The initiatives include a pediatric trauma network in West Tennessee and expansion of diabetes treatment and education in Middle Tennessee.

Hannah Black’s first year teaching high school science opened her eyes to gaps in health care access, inspiring her to pursue dentistry. Now a first-year dental student, she is sharing her journey on social media to guide prospective students while preparing to serve communities in need.

Childhood obesity may begin taking shape long before birth, as two researchers have found while uncovering how the placenta and immune-related genes influence early growth. Their findings suggest the path to prevention could start during pregnancy, reshaping how scientists understand and address obesity risk.
