Freedom Riders
Film Fridays with Dr. Cheers "Freedom Riders"
Friday, October 23  |  6:00 PM EDT - 7:30 PM EDT
Freedom Riders is the powerful harrowing and ultimately inspirational story of six months in 1961 that changed America forever. From May until November 1961, more than 400 black and white Americans risked their lives—and many endured savage beatings and imprisonment—for simply traveling together on buses and trains as they journeyed through the Deep South. Deliberately violating Jim Crow laws in order to test and challenge a segregated interstate travel system, the Freedom Riders met with bitter racism and mob violence along the way, sorely testing their belief in nonviolent activism.
First Year Commons
First Year Commons
Friday, October 23  |  7:00 PM EDT - 8:30 PM EDT
First Year Commons is a space for first year students living in residence halls to connect, meet each other, and begin friendships that can last throughout college. This event, in Gather, will be a chance to "walk around" and talk to other first year students living on campus in your GW school and residence halls (as well as all the others!).
But the connection can only remain virtual for so long! Throughout the event, you'll be pushed to take your new friendships from this virtual space to doing things around campus and in DC in the future. You never know what friends you may make, so stop by for a casual chance to meet someone new!
