|
2026 - 2027 GME Trainee Stipend |
University of Utah Health has approved a 2.5% increase to GME trainee stipends for FY2027 (effective July 1, 2026). Keep in mind that GME trainees also receive an increase to annual stipends with a PGY level change.
|
The following GME policies have been recently created or updated. We want to ensure you are aware of these changes and strongly encourage you to review and familiarize yourself with the recent updates.
|
Additional GME policies are currently being updated and are in the approval process. Once finalized, our office will send an email notification with the updated policies for review.

Program Specific Policy Reminder |
All programs under the auspices of the Office of GME and GMEC are required to have the following program-specific policies in place (and uploaded in MedHub).
|
- Trainee Supervision
- Standards of Performance and Evaluation
- Handoffs and Transitions of Care
- Moonlighting
- Medical Marijuana
|
Although not required, it is recommended that programs establish their own specific policies on the following topics, based on UUH GME policies and ACGME requirements:

- Trainee Leave
- Selection Process
- Recruitment and Retention
- Lactation
- Dress Code
|
All UUH employees are required to comply with the annual flu vaccine requirement. Regardless of where you received your vaccine, GME trainees must upload proof of vaccination to MedHub. |
Employees who do not upload documentation by 11/12, or who submit exemption requests after 10/30, may face disciplinary action. Plan ahead and submit early to avoid disciplinary action! |
Chart Completion and Alert Policies Update |
Our chart completion and alert policies have been updated to improve patient care and coordination with more timely communication between care teams and patients. Documentation should be completed within 7 days (including weekends, holidays, and PTO days) after the chart is opened. See full Medical Record Completion Policy.

GME Finance - Schedule Reminders |
All programs should run their own Schedule Errors report on the last day of each month, with a monthly goal of zero errors. Trainees cannot be scheduled in two places at once. Programs should carefully monitor trainee assignments and ensure schedules accurately reflect where trainees are located.
|
Beginning next fiscal year, the naming of University of Utah Health Sites in MedHub will undergo significant changes. The Office of GME will be distributing a survey next month to all program coordinators/managers to gather feedback on potential barriers or challenges. Your input will help guide the training session at the February 2026 GME Training Workshop.

Tools & Training for Recruitment |
Programs participating in ERAS can take advantage of complimentary access to Thalamus tools through the AAMC-Thalamus collaboration. These tools (Cortex, Core, and Cerebellum) support holistic application review, interview scheduling, and data analytics. Explore available resources and training to streamline your recruitment process.

The office of Graduate Medical Education hosted the 1st Annual Transition to Fellowship Half-Day Workshop, welcoming 30 incoming fellows from 18 specialties. The event featured expert-led sessions focused on clinical leadership and professional development, along with opportunities for networking and peer connection.

GME Wellness: LGBTQ+ Community Group

This is a private and confidential place where LGBTQ+ trainees and allies can gain peer support, encouragement, and camaraderie around their sexual and gender identities. The space is for anyone who identifies in the queer community, including allies, to share and discuss ideas and experiences related to issues that impact doctors inside and outside of medicine.

Transfusion Education Committee (TrEC) Microsessions

The Transfusion Education Committee (TrEC) is open to all residents, fellows, medical students, and APCs in the University of Utah system. We are dedicated to high-yield, low time commitment, and fun education about blood transfusion to offer our patients the optimal, patient-centered, and evidence-based approach to transfusion. Join us every Friday at 3PM for our TEAMS meeting that is a seven-question anonymous game on the material with teaching points, and the winner receives a $50 gift card! The TrEC pulse page has tons of resources from previous weeks.

GME Quarterly Program Coordinator/Manager Training Workshops

The Program Coordinator/Manager Advocacy Committee (PCMAC) holds quarterly training workshops to educate, share best practices and build a network of support within the GME program coordinator/manager community. The workshop agenda topics will remain consistent each year, however, the presentations may vary slightly year-to-year depending on Annual Program Coordinator Survey feedback and the number of related support requests fielded.
