The Interchange, BYM's quarterly newsletter, is now available for Winter 2023. We are now accepting new and articles for the Spring Interchange, which will be distributed in May. Submissions can be sent to admin@bym-rsf.org

Called Interim Meeting Accepts Representatives to FUM Triennial
|
Baltimore Yearly Meeting met to worship together and do business on Saturday, Jan 28th via Zoom. The Meeting accepted the report from Nominating Committee. The following Friends will serve as BYM's representatives to the Friends United Meeting Triennial in July. These Friends will report back to the Yearly Meeting at Annual Sessions. Ann Rigs (FUM Board Rep), Bartholomew Miheso (Adelphi), Chester McCoy (Adelphi), Damaris Kifude (FUM Board Rep), Georgia Fuller (FUM Board Rep), Michael Wallace (Bethesda), Paul Isayi (Stony Run), Sarah Gillooly (General Secretary), Steph Bean (Presiding Clerk).

Mediation and Facilitation Training, Feb 10 & 25
|
The Friends Helping Friends, a working group under the BYM Ministry and Pastoral Care Committee, is offering a training by Zoom on the topics of mediation and facilitation. We are seeking people to come who would be willing to be on a directory of people who could be called upon to work with conflicts between Friends in Meetings in BYM. People newly trained would be paired with more experienced mediator/facilitators to do this interesting and important work. It's not too late to sign up!

Black Quaker Lives Matter Film Festival
and Forum
|
The BlackQuaker Project celebrates the lives and contributions of Quakers of Color worldwide and documents and addresses their concerns. Founded by Dr. Hal Weaver, it is an outreach and inreach ministry of Wellesley Friends Meeting. The BlackQuaker Project is proud to announce the 2023 Black Quaker Lives Matter Film Festival & Forum, a groundbreaking exploration of Black Friends who made a difference throughout both US and world history. From 4 February to 8 April, screenings, dedicated to Quakers of Color, will be held every other Saturday at 1:00 PM ET over Zoom Webinar.

Conscientious Objector Workshop, 2/28 & 3/7
|
Back by popular demand, Annapolis Friends Meeting Peace & Social Concerns Committee will offer a practical Zoom workshop again this year for young Friends from ages 15 to 25 - titled "Conscientious Objection: Is this for you?" This workshop will provide two interactive sessions and is open to all.

Funds under the care of Baltimore Yearly Meeting and Baltimore Monthly Meeting, Stony Run have begun their annual scholarship and grant cycles. Please share!

The Miles White Beneficial Society provides grants to individuals and organizations in Baltimore City. Scholarships are available for Baltimore City students, and organizational grants are available in the areas of Education & Enrichment, Health & Human Services, and Innovation. The purpose of the Sue Thomas Turner Quaker Education Fund is to support the understanding and practice of Quaker faith in schools, and to support the growth of a life lived in the Spirit by members of the school communities. The fund is targeted for Friends schools under the care of a Friends Meeting, but is available to any school community. Read more about the Sue Thomas Turner Fund.

BYM Educational Grants are available for members or regular attenders, and the children of members and attenders, of BYM monthly meetings. Awards up to $2,000 are made for undergraduate studies. The 2023 cycle is not yet open. However, please keep your eye on their webpage for updates!

The Jonathan K. Taylor Swarthmore College Scholarship Fund is administered by Baltimore Monthly Meeting, Stony Run to provide support to students attending Swarthmore College. Preference goes to members of the BYM community but is also available to other applicants in the Quaker community. Funds up to $25,000 will distributed among the successful applicants.
