PARENTS & FAMILIES NEWSLETTER
|
|
Dear NYU Parents and Families,
We are here to support you as you guide your student in navigating their time at NYU. In this newsletter, we share information and tips to pass onto your student — especially as Thanksgiving Break nears.
| |
|
Thanksgiving Break
For the break, most NYU administrative offices will be closed from 4pm on Wednesday, November 24th until Sunday, November 28th. Some services and facilities will remain open including all residence halls, Dining, Campus Safety, Athetlics facilities, and the Wellness Exchange.
Thanksgiving Meal: For students who will be staying on campus during the break, NYU Dining will be serving a traditional Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, November 25th, from 10am to 4pm at Downstein in Manhattan and Jasper Kane Cafe in Brooklyn. Refer to the full list of dining hours of operation during the break.

Discounted Airport Shuttle Service
NYU has partnered with Via to provide discounted Airport Shuttle Service to and from New York City's three major local airports (John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark-Liberty).

COVID-19-Related Developments
Travel
Mask-wearing is required on most forms of public and commercial transit and transportation; however, your student should wear a mask in public settings even if it is not required, such as when shopping in crowded stores and rest areas or other transportation hubs. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the CDC recommendations on gatherings and follow them during the break.
Post-Break Testing
If your student finds themself in a situation where their risk of catching COVID-19 was elevated (e.g., the person sitting next to them at Thanksgiving was unvaccinated) and/or they experience COVID-19 symptoms upon return to campus, please make sure they utilize the discretionary testing program we have in place.
| |
COVID-19 Booster Shots
Eligibility for COVID-19 booster shots has expanded. All members of the NYU community who are 18 years of age or older are now eligible (once the recommended time period from the last dose has passed) — including those vaccinated with J&J, Pfizer, Moderna, and World Health Organization listed vaccines. Eligible members of the NYU community may arrange to receive their booster shots through NYU or through any provider of their choosing.

Sign up for NYU Alerts
NYU Alert, the University’s Emergency Notification System, allows you to receive alerts from NYU’s Department of Campus Safety on your cell phone. You can opt in to receive these text alerts. If your student has an active NYU ID card, they have already been included to receive NYU Alerts. If you have questions about NYU Alerts, please contact emergencymanagement@nyu.edu

Roommate Relations
Living with a roommate can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your student's college career. Living with someone, however, also has its challenges. Conflict is a normal part of roommate relationships, and it is important for these conflicts to be addressed by everyone living in the room/apartment.
The Office of Residential Life & Housing Services provides information on how to navigate roommate relations — including a guide for parents and supporters.

Meal Plans
Fall meal plans end on December 22nd at 4pm, and meal swipes do not roll over to the spring semester (dining dollars will rollover on February 9th for active spring 2022 meal plan members). Please remind your student to use their meal plans before they expire.
If your student has extra meal swipes, they are invited to donate a meal through the "Swipe It Forward Program" to other students in need. To make a donation, students simply notify a dining hall cashier at one of our participating locations (Lipton, Third North, Palladium, Downstein, Kosher Eatery, The Marketplace at Kimmel, Peet’s Coffee and Jasper Kane Café), present their NYU ID card, and a meal swipe is deducted from the card.
If you have questions about the meal plan, please contact AskCampusServices@nyu.edu

NYU Insurance
Does your student have NYU-sponsored Student Health Insurance? If so, their health insurance plan coverage will end on January 8, 2022 unless they are enrolled in the annual plan. Learn about NYU Insurance for graduating students.
| |
Free Flu Shots for NYU Students
The Student Health Center offers free flu shots for all NYU students, regardless of insurance. Getting an annual flu shot is the best way for students to protect themselves and others from getting the flu. Encourage your student to log in to the Student Health Center Portal and schedule an appointment.

Pen Pal Program
