Peace & Social Concerns Networking Day, Saturday, March 14th

How are we Meeting the Moment?
Discernment, Clearness & Faithful Action in Grim Times

The 2026 BYM Networking Day will be Saturday, March 14, 9:30am - 3pm at Friends Meeting School, 3232 Green Valley Road, Ijamsville, MD (near Frederick). We invite local meetings to come share their ideas and experiences for meeting this moment.

This year’s schedule responds to Friends’ requests last year for more time and space for flexible interaction as well as workshops. 2026 focus topics will include: immigrant support, just peace for Palestine/Israel, anti-militarism, and Shepherdstown MM “harms” minute.

Schedule

9:30 am - Registration and Refreshment with Friends.

10:00 am - Opening: Queries to frame the day together.

10:45 am - Morning workshops

12:00 pm - Lunch (provided - donations welcome)

1:15 pm - Afternoon workshops

2:30 pm - Closing circle: worship-sharing, reflection, takeaways.

Sign-Up Ends Sunday: BYM Immigration Enforcement Lawsuit on Tuesday

Join the BYM General Secretary and our lawyers from Democracy Forward on Tuesday, March 3rd at 5pm for an update on our lawsuit Friends et al v. U.S. Department of Homeland Security et al. All BYM Meetings are included in the preliminary injunction granted by the Court. Come hear an update and next steps in our case, and get your questions answered. Advance registration with Monthly Meeting affiliation is required and will be confirmed.

Our Clerk and General Secretary have drafted some recommendations and resources for Monthly Meetings related to the concern about immigration enforcement at and near Meeting Houses. We have consulted with expert partners as well as Meetings who are currently carrying this concern, and a toolkit will be coming soon. We need to cross a few more t's and dot a few more i's to make sure we are providing you the best information possible. Look for that toolkit within the next 5-7 days!

BYM Scholarship and Grant Applications Closing Soon

The grant and scholarship cycle of BYM is coming to a close - but there is still time left to apply!

Sue Thomas Turner Quaker Education Fund grants close March 1st. These grants support Quaker education and the teaching of Quaker values in public schools.
Miles White Beneficial Society Grants close March 6th. Three different kinds of grants support projects in Baltimore city and scholarships for students from Baltimore.
BYM Educational Scholarship Application closes March 30. This fund grants scholarships to member and attenders - or their children - of BYM monthly meetings.

Love As Action: Quaker Witness in Gettsyburg

Last weekend, Menallen Friends took faithful action - taking their Quaker witness to the public Square in Gettysburg. Joined by interfaith partners, the Meeting for Worship gathered to bear witness and show resistance to growing authoritarian actions in our country, especially as these are focused upon our most marginalized and vulnerable neighbors. The Meeting for Worship was covered by the local news.

Gunpowder Friends Pass Minute on Federal Actions

Earlier this month, Friends in Gunpowder Friends Meeting approved a Minute in response to the current actions of various branches of the Federal Government. Gunpowder Meeting joins Shepherdstown Meeting and Hopewell-Centre Meeting, which passed related Minutes in the fall.

Holding Our Camp Directors in the Light

This weekend, our BYM Quaker Camp Directors from Catoctin, Opequon, Shiloh, and Teen Adventure will gather with our Camping Program Manager and other BYM staff to begin their preparations for the 2026 camping season. The annual Director's Retreat is a time for our directors to get updated on policy and procedure changes, share best practices with each other, plan for the upcoming camping season, and enjoy the gift of mutual spiritual accompaniment in their vital ministry. Please hold them and their ministries in the Light of the Spirit's wisdom and love this weekend!

Womens Speaking Justified: Margaret Fell Republished for the 21st Century

In preparation for International Women’s Day, Quakers have issued a historic call to Christians to embrace women’s leadership. Originally written in 1666 by Quaker co-founder Margaret Fell, Women’s Speaking Justified methodically explains how women’s ministry is found throughout scripture from Genesis to Revelation. It will now be republished in an updated edition from Barclay Press, translated into modern English by George Fox University professor Paul Anderson with a foreword from FWCC.
