NYU Shanghai Alumni Chapter in New York: Alumni Dinner in NYC with Chancellor Tong

You're invited to join your fellow NYU Shanghai alumni for a dinner with Chancellor Tong Shijun and hear updates from NYU Shanghai on Sunday, May 11th, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM ET in New York. Alumni will also share their NYU Shanghai experiences and reflect on where their journeys have taken them since graduation.

NYU Shanghai Alumni: Conversation with Chancellor Emeritus Yu Lizhong for NYU Shanghai One Day

On March 15, NYU Shanghai alumni gathered to celebrate NYU Shanghai One Day with a special book-sharing session featuring Chancellor Emeritus Yu Lizhong. During this inspiring discussion, attendees reflected on his latest work, Make The World Your Major, which chronicles his experiences at NYU Shanghai since its founding. His journey, having witnessed the campus grow from strength to strength over the years, resonated with many alumni. As this event was held in conjunction with NYU Shanghai One Day, we extend our deepest gratitude to all participants and generous donors who contributed to the 2013 Fund for supporting the continued success of our university community.

NYU Shanghai Alumni: Hear from Provost Joanna Waley-Cohen at Photo Exhibition “A Lifetime Engagement”

On April 19, Provost Joanna Waley-Cohen shared precious memories from her first steps on Chinese soil in 1973 to her involvement in the founding of NYU Shanghai. During the interactive session, several alumni reminisced about their first encounters with Provost Waley-Cohen and revisited the professional knowledge and life lessons they had learned in her class. One alumnus even remarked that Provost Waley-Cohen’s speech at commencement still guides them to this day.

Sweat, Skill & Athletic Integrity: SFUC Recap

At the last leg of the inaugural Sino-Foreign University Cup last weekend, NYU Shanghai’s Qilins went up against University of Nottingham Ningbo China and Duke Kunshan University, competing in six sports.

Prospective Students Visit Campus for Candidate Weekend

From March 15 to 16, high school students from mainland China visited campus for this year’s first Candidate Weekend. They were just a portion of the nearly 1500 students invited by NYU Shanghai’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions to participate in six day-long admissions events hosted over three weekends at the New Bund campus.

“Worlds Make Stories, Stories Make Worlds” by Monika Lin

Associate Arts Professor of Visual Arts Monika Lin’s Exhibition is on view from Mar 31-May 2 at Fleisher Art Memorial in Philadelphia. The exhibition includes works that were created in collaboration with several professors from NYU Shanghai. Audiences will get to listen and see how much it matters what matter we use to tell stories.

While her classmates went on to graduate school or started their career immediately after graduation, Mia Fan Jiayin ’23 chose to take the road less traveled, taking a gap year to work as a sales assistant at a sustainable fashion brand. For Callum Amor ’19, being an NYU Shanghai student meant breaking out of his comfort zone, immersing himself in the city, and saying yes to every opportunity. Amor sought opportunities to intern at China’s first and biggest music festivals like Budweiser STORM Festival Shanghai, and collaborate alongside international artists.

Class Notes

Sponge Luo Qing ’17: I’m currently working as a Recruitment Consultant at Tidalwave Solutions, a leading executive search firm based in Shanghai. My primary focus is on mid-to-senior level recruitment within the Healthcare and Financial Services sectors, where I partner with both multinational corporations and high-growth local companies to identify top-tier talent.

Zhang Zihuan ’17: I currently work at Ant Group in Hangzhou as a Loan Credit Risk Strategist. Aside from work, I also perform improv shows at a local club. NYU Shanghai has taught me to have an open and optimistic attitude towards life and it helps me to become who I am now.
