San Jose Neighborhood Project Kickoff Celebration |
As the day dawned breezy and chilly, Saturday February 25th saw two single mothers in Albuquerque realize their life-long dreams – home ownership.
Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity (GAHH), following a two-year construction build hiatus due to COVID, is back at work building six homes for families in need. We’ve begun laying the groundwork for three of the homes including the pouring of cement slabs and putting up the insulated concrete forms. The entire block of six homes will be solar-generated, accessible and energy efficient.

At Saturday’s kickoff ceremony, we had the honor and privilege to welcome members of the community, dignitaries from local government, local and national businesses who donated resources as well as our home sponsors – Wells Fargo, Mountainside United Methodist Church and Michael and Nancy O’Dell.
This is the very first home for Keke Hodges, “This makes me feel proud that I’m able to leave something behind when I’m gone.” Keke was there with her two nieces, whom she’s raising. Keke’s older children are grown and living on their own.

When asked if the process to homeownership though GAHH was difficult, Keke replied “No one has ever given me anything. You must do the footwork.” In this instance the footwork being the 350 hours of sweat equity Keke and her family had to contribute to her home. She is most grateful to all that made her dream a reality, most especially our donors.
The third home being built is our Women Build 2023 house, which we will kick off on Wednesday March 8th, in honor of International Women’s Day.
If you wish to contribute to this beautiful new neighborhood AND take advantage of state tax credits of $1,000 or more, please contact our Director of Development, Liz Vincent at Liz@HabitatABQ.org or call 505-359-2423.

This home will feature a fully accessible design, solar panels, insulated concrete forms, energy star appliances, LED fixtures, and adaptive & native xeriscaping. We are so excited to get started.
Special thanks to Talia Freedman and Co. Real Estate as our featured sponsor for this home.

Many people feel the topic of Gift Planning or Legacy Planning, is too complex and certainly not for the faint of heart. It should be left to attorneys, wealth managers and other investment advisors. It’s certainly not for the average donor – or is it?
Over the next several months edition of our newsletter, we will breakdown the various gifting vehicles into layman’s terms.
|
| We will describe these three main categories that charitable contributions fall into and help you to understand how, and why, you should consider a Legacy Gift:
|
-
Deferred gifts of cash or other assets
- Gifts that pay an income
- Gifts that protect a donor’s assets
|
|
Each gift type has different requirements and advantages depending your (the donor)’s financial circumstances. We recommend you speak with your investment strategist to explore the best giving vehicle for your personal financial situation.
So join us in the March newsletter and read about Bequests!
