SUSTAINING FUND

$550,000 For Our Kids And Community!
This school year we need to raise $550,000 for our annual Sustaining Fundwe've raised $400,000, so $150,000 more to go by June. The Sustaining Fund is annual because it fills the gap every year between what tuition brings in and the cost of running Santa Fe Prep at the high level we do. Our Sustaining Fund nurtures our school. It funds projects and programs (and supports the faculty and staff) that take the education at Prep from good to great. And it opens the doors for bright and motivated kids with financial need to have access to this life-changing experience.

Faculty and staff have given; now we need every parent, alumni, grandparent, alumni parent, and friend to give at whatever level you are able.  All donations go directly back to the school and the future of the bright kids we serve. These students, in turn, engage themselves in the needs of Santa Fe, as they will anywhere they land.

We thank Jessica and Nathan Aufrichtigowners of Pizza Centro and parents of 7th grader Maxfor urging donations by offering a pizza party for the first class to reach 100% parent participation to the Fund. So far the Middle School is taking the lead with 8th grade in first place and 7th grade close behind. Thank you all for being a part of our reaching $550,000!

FEATURED STORIES
WELLNESS WATCH
Unconscious
(Implicit) Bias
Less than 15% of American men are over six feet tall, yet more than 60% of corporate CEOs are over six feet tall.  Unconscious biases drive us to believe the tallest men are smarter and more capable even though most men are not tall.

An inaccurate view of biases is that they are conscious. Good folks are not biased and not-so-good people are biased. This misconception has not helped us address some of the limitations placed unintentionally on some people due to unconscious attitudes we all possess about height, physique, race, gender, ethnicity, and more. AROUND & ABOUT
Students in Rob Madril's AP Environmental Science (APES) class and Robotics class have spent some time learning outside the classroom recently. Last week, APES students were given a tour by Adam Cohen '96 at Santa Fe Community College on their alternative energy experiments that range from growing algae to use as fuel, to checking out hydroponic and aquaponic "gardens" and learning about solar energy; and the Robotics class were given a tour of Intel last week.
Author Greg Martin visited Rob Wilder's Senior English class on March 30 to discuss his memoir Stories for Boys. In his memoir of fathers and sons, Martin struggles to reconcile the father he thought he knew with a man who has just survived a suicide attempt; a man who had been having anonymous affairs with men throughout his thirty-nine years of marriage; and who now must begin his life as a gay man.

The seniors engaged in a lively conversation with Martin as part of a visiting author series in Wilder's class. Martin teaches in the UNM MFA Program and directs the Combined BA/MD Program.
