Tuesday, March 9: Talon Time Advisory - Student Council Meeting for Reps & by scheduled meeting for all other students, 1:25-1:55 p.m.
Advisory Student Council representatives and ASB/Club representatives will go directly to the Student Council Zoom. ALL other students can schedule to meet with their advisor or advisors can request and schedule students to attend from 1:25-1:55 p.m. for support.
Advisors will provide Zoom links for their students who schedule to meet or are scheduled by advisors to meet.
The only students advisors should mark absent from Advisory on Tuesday the 9th are:

On March 31st (time tbd), seniors are invited to an in-person social event planned by ASB! More details to follow.
On April 28th (time tbd), cap and gown distribution will occur at WHS to get ready for graduation. More details to follow.

Registration update for 2021-22:
Thank you to all the families/students for submitting your student's registration worksheets!
- The StudentVue online registration portal is now closed.
- Students are still required to upload their completed course registration sheet to the registration folder on Schoology.
- Please check with your student to ensure they have submitted their registration form to their Schoology account and if not, have them submit the form as soon as possible. It is important for counselors to have access to this form.
We want to ensure we have your student registered for 2021-22!
Counselors will be reviewing student course selections over the next few weeks and will reach out if they have any questions.
Mental Health Matters:
It is the one-year anniversary from when we stopped attending school due to Covid.
For your student, this anniversary may create feelings of anxiety or thoughts of panic due to the prolonged absence from in person learning and being separated from friends.
Please reach out to your student's Counselor if you have concerns for your student. We are in this together and we will get through this.
We look forward to being together with our students again one day soon.

WANIC Skill Center Virtual Open House
Full Year Skill Center classes offered for 2021-22

WANIC Skill Center offers high quality tuition-free skill center classes designed for high school juniors and seniors.
These year-long, advanced-level programs are based on rigorous academic and industry standards preparing students for career and college readiness.
WANIC programs offer dual credit opportunities (high school and college credit) and/or lead to industry certifications.
Programs are designed in three period blocks which allows extended learning time and authentic hands-on lab experience.
Skill Center classes are offered at many local high schools in our area, DigiPen Institute of Technology and Lake Washington Institute of Technology.
Students enrolled in these school districts are eligible to apply: Bellevue, Everett, Issaquah, Lake Washington, Mercer Island, Northshore, Riverview and Snoqualmie Valley.
All classes are offered during the regular school day, while some are also offered after the school day. Students attend their home high school for part of their day and attend WANIC Skill Center programs in a different location for the remainder of the day

Families are encouraged to take a few minutes to check their contact information, including phone numbers and email addresses. We use parent/guardian email addresses to create school mailing lists. The District also uses email as a tool for sharing important, and sometimes urgent, information with families. Automated phone calls are sent to families with safety and emergency messages.

Follow NSD Reopening Plan & Safety Protocols
The following plan was developed by District staff in preparation for a return to school and District buildings when it is safe to do so. The information in this handbook is intended to help everyone understand required safety protocols and know what to expect for every student and staff member. As the pandemic data and state response continue to evolve, District staff will continue to review, refine, and adjust this plan as needed. We remain grateful for their efforts.
The return to in-person learning will be most successful and have the best chance to be sustainable if we are all prepared and working together. We ask that you familiarize yourself and your students with the following health department protocols and CDC requirements.

C.P. & Dorothy Johnson Humanitarian Award: February Nominees!
The CP & Dorothy Johnson Humanitarian Award was established in 1988 in memory of Clifford Paul Johnson and his wife Dorothy. Both CP and Dorothy Johnson were long time Bothell residents and educators who dedicated their lives to improving the lives of all children in our community. There are three categories' for nominations:
Community: Students who demonstrate the ability to promote and foster collaboration toward a common goal, fairness, freedom of expression, and effective communication within a group.
Acceptance: Students who promote the value and celebration of their peers’ strengths, abilities, and identities.
Advocacy: Students who support the needs of, and encourage equitable opportunities and resources for, their peers.
Our WHS Racial and Educational Justice team will be building a monthly student pool of nominees from teachers and WHS staff. These students will be finalists for the end of the year as possible recipients of the award presented by the district, and as part of this honor, they will recognize two students from each school who display the characteristics of a humanitarian in their school and community. Here are the nominations for the month of February and a short summary of why they were nominated from the teacher that nominated them.

Audrey Parshall was nominated by Christine Velin
Audrey is an enthusiastic participant in Spanish 100. She contributes consistently in whole group and small group. Audrey works well with her classmates and can be counted on as a leader in any group. Her positive attitude about learning Spanish sets a great example for others.

Austin Glen was nominated by Maria Elieff
Austin is in my advisory and has been since 9th grade. It’s been rewarding to see him evolve into the kind, thoughtful, and accepting young man that he is. He is an active part in ASB and is also involved in the theater department, but what stands out the most to me is how gregarious he is towards anyone near him. He is always willing to offer reassuring words and he makes people more comfortable when they are around him. He has an attractive personality that make him a natural leader and amiable individual. He is someone that will earn an interesting life and those that make his acquaintance will be better off knowing him.

Extraordinary Falcons!
Sarah White, principal of Eastridge Elementary, wanted to let our staff know about some of our extraordinary students who have been supporting one of Eastridge’s third-grade classes with Ms. Ratliff.
The dedication of each of these WHS students has been beneficial to Ms. Ratliff’s students in academics and social emotional development during this online learning. The high schoolers will frequently "visit" her class at 10:55 during their lunches as mystery visitor(s) and play math games with my students until 11:20. Every Wednesday, each high schooler has groups of 1-3 based upon student need. Each group meets between 15-30 minutes weekly. The high schoolers play games, tell jokes, and connect with my students by asking questions to engage them.

Woodinville WE Club is hosting our first-ever drive next week! In partnership with the Acres of Diamonds Women’s Shelter, we will be collecting kid-friendly cleaning supplies & pantry food to donate to the shelter to assist during this difficult time for single moms and their children.
Collection will take place in the Main Office Loop:
- Tuesday March 9th from 3:00-4:30 pm, and
- Wednesday the 10th from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Students can obtain 1 National Honor Society hour for every 6 items, up to 2 hours total!

WHS Drama Boosters Seattle Goodwill Donation Drive, March 14 9am-12pm
The Woodinville Drama Boosters are partnering with Goodwill to offer families a serious spring-cleaning opportunity while raising money to support the amazing Theatre program at WHS.
Drop off at WHS Parking Lot on NE 195th St between the football and baseball fields.
Note: No furniture larger than an end table can be accepted.
All e-waste that can’t be sold will be e-cycled. Clothing and shores should be in their own bags/boxes.

NHS Final Hours Submission
All final hours for National Honor Society members are due by 11:59 p.m. on March 26th, 2021. Students will upload documentation of at least 20 service hours total to the assignment on the NHS Schoology page. Please remember to submit ALL service hours for the year, including a resubmission of the hours submitted at the November check.
Students who do not upload their final hours or did not meet requirements from the November check will not be considered for admission into National Honor Society for the 2021-2022 school year. (Yes, students are being inducted into NHS for next year.) Details will follow about the induction ceremony that will take place on May 20, 2021.
Students can view their "grade" on the NHS Schoology to check that they have met requirements for the year so far. There is no appeal process for not turning hours in on time or a cumulative GPA below 3.5.

Does Your Student Owe Fines or Fees?
Pursuant to NSD guidelines, notifications are mailed to homes at the end of each quarterly grading period. The fine and outstanding fee ledgers will be sent out to homes the week of February 8th. Fines and fees can always be viewed and paid online 24-hours a day through TouchBase, using your NSD generated log in information that has been given to you.

Power or Internet Outage -
What To Do
We understand that weather incidents may cause a loss of power when students and staff are engaged in distance learning. Our district's Technology, Northshore Learns, and Communications teams collaborated with educators to develop a plan for notifications about power outages, access to service, and how everyone can prepare ahead of time to adjust and continue learning. Please visit our website to learn what to do if your power goes out or if your teacher's power goes out.

Winter Weather
As we enter into the winter season and the potential for inclement weather, it is important to make sure your family’s contact information is current. Families can verify contact information in ParentVUE. Please contact the WHS office today if you need help accessing ParentVUE or updating contact information.
In the event of an emergency, or if winter weather conditions impact the school schedule or affect meal distribution or Books on the Bus, families will receive a phone call, email and/or text message from the District. Information will also be posted on the District website at nsd.org and social media channels. If no information is communicated, there is no change to schedules.
As a reminder, there is detailed information on our District website if your family loses power and/or internet during distance learning due to inclement weather.

Northshore Speaks
Students, do you want to share your voice? The Northshore School District is hosting Northshore Speaks at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 29 for students and staff to share their own spoken word poetry.
Original spoken word poems submitted to Flipgrid before the end of day on Sunday, April 18, 2021 will be considered for the 2021 Northshore Speaks event. Northshore students and staff should log in to Flipgrid using their Northshore School District account. If an entry is selected, District Communications staff will connect directly with the student and their family, or the staff member. If you are a student, be sure to have your parent/guardian complete the Northshore Speaks participation form.

New E-Flyer Platform - Peachjar
We are excited to share that we have moved our e-flyer program to a platform called Peachjar. We receive many requests from local non-profit organizations to distribute program fliers. Peachjar will help facilitate the process of submitting, reviewing, approving and posting e-flyers. With the move to this platform, all e-flyers that are submitted to Peachjar will then be reviewed and approved by District staff to ensure that they meet the District guidelines. We are committed to providing access to all individuals seeking information on our District website. All submitted PDFs must meet accessibility requirements to be approved for distribution. We also encourage organizations to submit flyers in the top five languages spoken in our district.

Building Our Falcon Community this School Year!
We are so excited for our students to join all the exciting clubs Woodinville has to offer. Here at WHS, students will find clubs ranging from a wide variety of interests, and WHS ASB has a lot in store for students to meet all these different clubs.

These flyers will have a brief description of each club as well how to contact said club. Washington's K-12 Internet Access Program: Check Eligibility for Free Internet Access
Having reliable connectivity to the internet is critical for your student’s success during distance learning. The state recognizes this need, and has partnered with Ziply Fiber and Comcast/Xfinity to create Washington’s K–12 Internet Access Program, which gives eligible families free internet access so your student can connect to online learning from home.
This internet access opportunity will provide you with faster, stronger and more reliable connectivity than hotspots or tethering to mobile devices, which will better support your student. If eligible, your free internet access is available through June 30, 2021.

2020-21 ATHLETICS REGISTRATION
FinalForms registration is still OPEN for Season 2 (winter) and Season 3 (spring) sports. Registration closes for gymnastics on Monday, March 29, and other Season 2 (winter) sports on Monday, April 5. Registration will remain open for Season 3 (spring) sports until Monday, May 3.
Required PRIOR to Participation in Athletics
To participate in athletics, a FinalForms registration must be completed by both parent and student and a current sports physical must be on file with the WHS Athletic Office. Sports physicals are good for two years from the exam date.

InvestED is a 501 (c) (3) organization that provides funding to support the efforts of secondary schools throughout Washington State. They partner with 660 schools and assist more than 16,500 students with small amounts of short-term, item-specific, need-based funding – items such as shoes, coats, glasses, sports equipment, and academic fees. Their mission is to provide immediate help for students in need. Their goal is to encourage students to stay in school, return to school, or get involved within their learning community.

Apply for Free & Reduced Price Meals Today!
While Northshore is currently providing free meals, this support is made possible by temporary USDA funding. If this funding changes, the District may be required to charge families based on their current eligibility for meals. Have you applied for free and reduced-price meals this year?
If your family qualified last year, you need to reapply this year to ensure that your student receives free or reduced price meals once the current free meals program ends. It is important to apply today so that your eligibility status doesn’t lapse. If an application was not in process for a returning student by October 14, 2020, the student’s account was automatically transferred to a paid account the next school day. Please know that the number of eligible students for free and reduced price meals connects to the District’s Title I funding, which provides additional support at schools to help students succeed. Additionally, if your family income has decreased, you may be eligible for free or reduced-price school meals.
In addition to receiving free or reduced-price meals, your eligibility also provides
- Reduced fee for Camp Cedar Spring
- Reduced fee for PSAT and Advanced Placement Testing

School Lunch Information
NSD is offering free meals for all children ages 18 and younger.
Students do not need to be enrolled in the Northshore School District to receive meals. NSD requires that all families wear a mask and maintain physical distancing when picking up their meals. Thank you for helping to keep our drivers and families safe.
