Online ISSS Check-in

The Online ISSS check-in site is open! Submit copies of your passport, visa, and I-20 or DS-2019 before you arrive. Please review the document check webpage and follow the steps. The check-in must be completed before orientation begins, so we recommend doing it as soon as possible. Note that you will not receive a confirmation when you are finished, but if you have gone through all the screens and uploaded your documents, you are done. You can log in as many times as you need to, but once you upload a document, you cannot upload it again.

Academic Expectations

Academic integrity is taken very seriously at Miami University. You may find different expectations at Miami about academic integrity and dishonesty than you have had in your previous schooling, particularly when it comes to writing and using information from sources.
We encourage you to ask your professors about any areas of academic integrity that you do not understand. Your professors will appreciate your questions! It is important to remember that you can maintain academic integrity by forming good habits such as:
  • attending class regularly
  • studying in between classes
  • meeting with your professor during office hours
  • asking questions and being excited about learning

Tips on how to achieve academic success:

  1. Read the Undergraduate Student Academic Integrity Webpage and be familiar with university expectations.
  2. Attend classes regularly and actively participate in discussions and group projects. You offer a unique perspective that we want to hear!
  3. Explore Miami culture and connect with your classmates, friends and professors inside and outside the classroom to expand your network of associates.
  4. Meet with your academic advisor at least once a semester. They can help you define your career development and help with your future goals.
  5. Get involved outside the classroom, such as offering to volunteer on research projects with your professors or volunteer with your professional association. This will help enhance your resumé.
  6. Practice speaking English as much as possible. Talk to your professors and peers, use the Howe Center for Writing Excellence to improve your writing. These things will build your confidence!

Undergraduate Student iPOL Profile

When you arrive at Miami University for international student orientation, you will have a designated iPOL to help you throughout orientation. Here are your iPOLs' profiles:
"Hey guys! My name is Jugal and I'm a senior majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Entrepreneurship. I'm from Mumbai, India. My most memorable moments at Miami include coming back after every break to see my friends again, taking part in different events on campus, and going to football and ice hockey games. The goals I had coming to college were to excel academically, learn moral values which I will retain and use throughout my life, and be a part of extracurricular activities. I'm involved in The Miami Student newspaper as the Photo Editor because I love Photography. Being thousands of miles away from your family, you'll find a new diverse family here which will teach you many values and skills that help you develop as a person. It gets much better here at Miami with every semester you finish! "
Profile picture of iPOL Priscilla Nguyen
"Hello! My name is Priscilla Nguyen and I will be a senior marketing major. I live in Sandusky, Ohio home to Cedar Point (America’s roller coaster capital). My favorite memory was when I met my best friend in Chem lab and when I taught our teaching assistant how to dab. Some advice I want to share with you would be to really cherish the moments and days at Miami. Time can fly really fast when you’re in college so try to make the most of every day, but make sure if you play hard you also work hard. Keeping a balance of the two will keep you on the track to success and happiness. Counting the days until we meet, have a safe summer, and see you all in the fall!"
Profile picture of iPOL Tessa Perry
"Hey! My name is Tessa Perry, and I am a junior International Studies and Spanish major from Columbus, Ohio. This is my second year being an iPOL, and I can't wait to welcome you to Miami! I'm involved in a few organizations on campus, including Cru, Alpha Phi Omega, and the ACE Conversation Cafe. I chose to work with the ACE program and be an iPOL because I believe in the importance of international and domestic students learning from each other. My advice for new international students is to find an organization at Miami that you are interested in; this will help you meet new people and adjust quickly to Miami. I look forward to meeting you in August!"
Profile Picture of iPOL Zhuoran
"Hello everyone! My name is Zhuoran. I'm a Junior majoring in Media &Culture and co-majoring in Interactive Media Studies. I come from Liaocheng, China. My favorite moment at Miami is sharing my culture with people, I also enjoy learning about others' culture. When I came to Miami, my goal was to be an iPOL and helping our new students to familiarize themselves with Miami. And here I am! I am the president of the Lion Dance club of Chinese Culture and Art Association and I am looking forward to it as more people join us and learn about Chinese Culture! My advice for you guys is to never be afraid to try new things. I'm sure you will be great!"
Next issue, we will be covering the following topics: Resident Life, Student Organizations, The Hub & Greek life, Community Engagement and Services, and Student Employment. Stay tuned!
