LPI Secures Release of Fourth LWOP Client in Four Years
The Loyola Project for the Innocent (LPI) has secured the release of client Dwight Jones, who served 21 years of a life-without-parole sentence for a crime he did not commit. Jones, now 41, was released from the Lerdo Pretrial Facility in Bakersfield last Thursday and celebrated with LPI students and attorneys on Friday. “To all the people at the Loyola Project for the Innocent, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Constitution Day Event: Fight-or-Flighting Words
This Friday, Sept. 17 is "Constitution Day," the anniversary of the completion of the writing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787. LLS commemorates Constitution Day each year with a presentation on a constitutional law topic. This year, Professor Aaron Caplan will present on a research project involving free speech rights under the First Amendment. In particular, his paper entitled "Fight-or-Flighting Words" considers the flaws and fallacies behind the "fighting words" doctrine, a principle that -- among other things -- allows police to arrest people for verbally insulting them. Requirements for Visitors to Access Campus
As has been announced, visitors to the LLS campus must be pre-approved via email request at least one week in advance to Dept-CampusOperations@lls.edu and include the visitor name, host name and date of visit. Someone must be able to meet and escort the visitor from the LLS parking structure. All visitors must complete the Lion Health Check for Visitors and attest that they are fully vaccinated or have been tested with a negative result within the 72 hours prior to their visit to campus. Categories of approved visitors include guest lecturers, LSJLC clients and other community partners as approved in advance.

Reminder: LLS ID Cards Required for Campus Access
As previously announced, LLS ID cards are required to access campus and must be carried at all times while on campus. Card readers have been installed at all entrances. Thank you for your continued cooperation.
