MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR
Yongsun Paik, Ph.D. Greetings from Los Angeles!
I trust your summer is going well. I am so happy to share the great news that the LMU CIBE grant has been renewed for another four years starting fall 2022. It is a remarkable achievement that LMU was included again in the elite group of 16 universities across the country that received this prestigious grant. We are indebted to many stakeholders such as LACCD, LAACC, LAEDC and WTCLA for their strong partnership.
The global supply chain bottleneck and a sharp increase in energy prices remind us how integrated the world is despite the recent globalization setback due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is why it becomes even more important to develop leaders who understand the intricacies of global business and geopolitical tensions. LMU CIBE continues its commitment to serving the needs of students, faculty and the business community. We look forward to your continued support in these endeavors. This newsletter highlights the exciting programs and activities that LMU CIBE sponsored during the first half of 2022 to help increase the global competitiveness of U.S. businesses. I hope you find it interesting and informative.
Thank you!

student spotlightItzel Chavez '22
Itzel Chavez has big plans after graduating from LMU with a degree in marketing and minor in international business. She's interested in a Fulbright in Taiwan as well as LMU’s global entrepreneurship program. She said that adding an international business minor was an easy decision. "International Business was one of the most fascinating courses. It was just a coincidence that the professor teaching it, Professor Dong Chen, happened to be chair of the international business minor!” The minor is designed to enhance professional competence and career mobility in an interconnected and rapidly evolving world.
Chavez said studying international business expanded her career goals and presented many exciting opportunities. “The [international business] courses prepare CBA students to adapt and develop skills to conduct business around the world. I think the key to conducting business in a global community is mutual understanding and collaboration. These courses help LMU students learn new skills to implement not just in their professional life, but in their personal life as well.” More
