We have a busy weekend ahead with the 50th Annual Tucson Meet Yourself and Film Fest Tucson! The Downtown Tucson Partnership (DTP) is setting the stage for a festive event and holiday season by tight wrapping over 150 downtown trees in warm-white LED lights. The trees are now lit and will remain aglow through the winter season.

We’re excited to announce even more locally-owned businesses and new concepts that call Downtown Tucson home. If you haven't been downtown in a while, now is a great time to get reacquainted with Tucson’s uniquely local city center. Your support is vitally important to their success.

Downtown Streets Illuminated

The DTP, with the generous support of the City of Tucson and Pima County, is once again tight-wrapping 152 downtown trees in bright white LED lights. The lights add beauty and a sense of safety to the main arteries of downtown. This is part of DTP's larger Desert Nights Downtown Lights cross-promotional holiday campaign. Learn more here.

New Business on Congress - Bruja

Bruja, a new retail store at 245 E. Congress Street, offers locally made products including candles, incense, oils, "Bruja Boxes" and more! Bruja identifies as "a Latina-owned business, embracing [their] indigenous roots," and explains the cultural history behind brujería rituals here. Come for the soft opening tonight, Friday the 13th, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m!

JoJo's Restaurant (formerly LaCo)

JoJo's is a thoughtful new restaurant concept in the former LaCo space (76 W. Washington Street). The new breakfast, lunch and dinner menus are inspired by the owner's recent trip to Europe. Enjoy live music on the patio while dining alfresco.

The Bar with Vintage Ambience

Find bites and cocktails that are eclectic, modern and classic inside of the Monsoon Room (formerly Tallboys) on the historic grounds of LaCo and Old Town Artisans at 201 N. Court Avenue. A nostalgic tone is present with Monsoon Room's low-lit hues, vintage lamps, green foliage and drink glasses reminiscent of vintage glassware.

Treat Yourself at Z Beauty Bar

Z Beauty Bar has moved to a new space downtown and we are thrilled to welcome them! Come for luscious hair extensions, color treatments and Brazillian Blowout services. The salon is located at 25 E. Congress Street, across from The Monica.

The Downtown Y is Lookin' Amazing!

The next time you walk by Joe Pagac’s most recent urban masterpiece (located at the corner of Church and Alameda) we encourage you to take a closer look at the girl in the center of the mural with the bright smile and flowers to match. The girl, Jade, attended the YMCA of Southern Arizona’s after-school program. Jade started a gardening club at the YMCA, and her image is one of several (in the mural) that depict real-life stories of lives being changed at the Y!

After checking out the mural (outdoors) step inside and ask for a tour of the newly remodeled Lohse Family YMCA! This vibrant community hub, at 60 W. Alameda Street, just underwent a six-million-dollar renovation. In addition to the overall modernization of the facility, the new downtown Y features:

New (indoor) YMCA Bike Hub
Expanded and modernized Welcome Center
New Connection Loung
New Airnasium for open-air, outdoor programming (yoga, etc.)
Renovated Aquatics Center

City Completes Restoration of El Presidio Fountain

A $600,000 restoration project of the historic El Presidio Fountain is now complete thanks to the City of Tucson. The fountain was originally constructed between 1970 and 1971 in El Presidio Park (165 W. Alameda Street) and was designed by architect Michael A. Lugo, Jr. and artist Charles Clement. Visit the fountain while you're downtown this weekend at Tucson Meet Yourself. Watch a video of the flowing fountain here.

Kick Back, Relax and Catch a Few Films

There are two more days left of Film Fest Tucson! Films will be screening tonight and tomorrow at four different venues: AC Hotel, Playground Bar & Lounge, Main Gate Square and the Tucson Scottish Rite Cathedral.

Tucson Meet Yourself is Happening this Weekend!

The beloved Tucson Meet Yourself festival starts today, October 13, and lasts throughout the weekend! Grab a delicious bite to eat and celebrate diversity at Jácome Plaza, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

In addition to the festival, the 35th annual AIDSWALK Tucson is this Sunday starting at 7 a.m. at Jácome Plaza - register here. The walk is SAAF's largest fundraiser of the year and provides the opportunity to promote awareness, education and a wide reach of programs and services.
