Faculty from the Center for Global Health and Department of Psychiatry, Drs. Mary Bunn, Stevan Weine and Judith Cook, delivered a plenary presentation at the Global Mental Health Summit in Cape Town, South Africa. Their presentation, "Peer Support Models for Global Communities Impacted by War, Violence and Other Adverse Social Conditions," highlighted innovative community-based mental health interventions across diverse global contexts. The presentation showcased research projects evaluating peer support models in Turkey, Tajikistan, Egypt, and with refugee communities in the United States, demonstrating scalable approaches to mental health care in settings affected by conflict and forced displacement. This work advances evidence-based practices for delivering culturally responsive mental health services to vulnerable populations worldwide.
The Global Mental Health Summit brings together people with lived experience, researchers, clinicians, and policymakers to address critical challenges in global mental health equity and service delivery.
