Commuter Spotlight: Julie Vandeman
Julie Vandeman, a contracts specialist at builder and developer EYA in Downtown Bethesda and recent
Walk & Ride Challenge participant, has been part of a happy
carpool with a friend in her neighborhood for nearly a year.
It all started when she was driving home one evening, and passed by someone she thought she recognized waiting at a bus stop. A few days later, she saw her friend again at the bus stop and they agreed to start
carpooling!
Since then, the two have been switching driving duties from their neighborhood in White Oak to their offices in Downtown Bethesda.
Coordinating work schedules can be challenging, but Vandeman has found that flexibility is the key to making their
carpool work. When one has to work late, the other just takes the
bus home.
The best part of being part of a
carpool is having someone to talk to during the commute.
“The radio gets old,” Julie says. Talking to someone makes “time go much faster.”
