2018 Art Advocacy Day

Arts Advocacy Day is the one day each year that arts advocates, organization leaders, and patrons come together to speak with our Nebraska legislators about the importance of supporting the arts and arts education in our state.
Registration is only $15 to cover the cost of the continental breakfast and refreshments at the morning events. All are welcome to attendClick here to register.

The event starts at 8:00 a.m. with an opportunity to talk directly with State Senators.

Advocacy Training Sessions at the Governor's Residence 

Arts & Economic Prosperity, Randy Cohen, Vice President of Research and Policy, Americans for the Arts  |  9:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m.
Randy is traveling the country, sharing the results of one of the most powerful research studies on the impact of the arts on a community, the Research & Economic Prosperity 5 (AEP5) report.  Learn about national and local findings on how the arts and culture supports jobs, generates government revenue, and is a cornerstone for tourism.
How to Craft and Tell Your Impact Story, Jo Giles, Director of Policy and Training, Coalition for a Strong Nebraska  |  10:00am-11:00 a.m. 
Sharing a meaningful, relevant story about your organization highlights the impact and importance of the work you do. Jo will help you identify your best story and explore ways you can share it with elected officials, donors, and other stakeholders. 
Sharing Your Impact Story with Your State Senator, Panel Presentation  |  11:00am-11:45 a.m. 
You have a story to tell, but still want to learn how to best share this information with your State Senator. Former State Senators Colby Coash and Tanya Cook will provide you with tips and suggestions to help you effectively contact and visit with your State Senator.
Sharing Your Impact Story with Your State Senator, Panel Presentation  |  noon-1:00 p.m. 
Now that you have developed your impact story and learned how best to share it with elected officials, it is time to go visit the State Capitol and share the importance of supporting the arts in Nebraska.  Nebraskans for the Arts will work with you to set a lunch meeting with your State Senator. You will take a box lunch to your State Senator (Nebraskans for the Arts will cover the State Senator's lunch; $7 for each person attending in your group).
