Psychologist and Prevention Specialist Dr. Megan Martinez wears many hats in Counseling, Health, & Wellness Services (CHWS). In addition to offering one-on-one counseling, she also runs support groups for student-athletes, and plans trainings and campus outreach efforts to address a range of mental health needs, like eating disorders. She encourages students to give counseling a try—even if they think therapy isn’t for them.
“Even if counseling ends up not being the answer, we can connect them to other resources on campus and make those connections,” she says.
Martinez was placed at Puget Sound for her doctoral internship in 2019 and loved the campus and surrounding community, so she was excited when a staff position opened up a few years later. Since joining CHWS full-time in 2023, she has spent her free time exploring Tacoma’s North End on foot, visiting local restaurants and coffee shops and enjoying time on the waterfront. A native of Colorado, Martinez also enjoys outdoor adventures and can often be found hiking or snowshoeing in the nearby Cascade Mountains.
