Diving into the Shark Tank at the 10th Annual Power Forward Speaker Series
|
The OEV team had an unforgettable time in the Shark Tank at the tenth annual Power Forward Speaker Series on January 30! The event featured two world-renowned entrepreneurs—Barbara Corcoran and Robert Herjavec, of ABC’s “Shark Tank” fame.
|
Here are some of our key takeaways:
|
✅
Virtue over venture: resilience can make or break a great business idea—or turn a weak one into something special. The key ingredient is you!
✅ It takes a village: the real competitive advantage is having a strong team and, more importantly, knowing where your players perform best.
✅
Leap, but look over the ledge first: you can’t reach new heights without risk-taking, but the jump shouldn’t be terrifying—be sure to research, assess, and get a lay of the land.
Last but not least, the #FLCapital4Biz community is a group of lifelong learners, and we’re growing stronger every day!

Tallahassee Cost of Living 7% Below Average in 2023
|
The Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER) recently released the 2023 Annual Average Cost of Living Index (COLI). COLI measures regional differences in the cost of consumer goods and services like grocery items, healthcare, and housing for professional and managerial households in the top 20% of income (excluding taxes and non-consumer expenditures). This research tool allows OEV to make accurate cost-of-living comparisons between Tallahassee-Leon County and other COLI-participating urban areas across the United States.
For 2023, the Tallahassee urban area had an overall composite index of 93.0, or 7% below the average cost of living for all 276 participating urban areas. Based on the communities listed in OEV’s Competitiveness Report, the 93.0 index put Tallahassee in the middle of the Comparative Communities and less expensive than most other Capital Communities.
