Read the Board Meeting Agenda

We invite you to read the agenda for the NSDA Board of Directors meeting on January 18. Please feel free to email any comments or questions to board@speechanddebate.org. Feedback will be compiled and presented to the Board for consideration.

Encourage Student Submissions for National Congress Legislation

New this year, any NSDA member student may submit legislation by February 15 to be considered for the 2022 National Tournament docket (multiple submissions welcome). We are seeking more submissions, more diverse topics, and more student input to align with our strategic goal of championing student agency and voice. Please spread the word to your students!

Nominate Coaches for the 2022 Hall of Fame Class

The highest honor for any high school speech and debate coach is election to the NSDA Hall of Fame. As a member coach, you can submit a Hall of Fame nomination by February 1 for consideration. In April, current Hall of Fame members and coaches with at least three diamonds vote to determine which nominees will be inducted.

Be a Part of Speech and Debate's Biggest Day

March 4 is National Speech and Debate Education Day! Held annually on the first Friday in March, NSDE Day recognizes teachers and students who are transforming tomorrow through speech and debate education. Teams across the country will join in the celebration, and we hope you'll be among them! A parent, student, volunteer, or coach can sign up to be captain for your school and receive our digital toolkit and free resources to help plan how your team will celebrate the life-changing skills millions of students have gained through this activity.

Plan for Black History Month

February is Black History Month! Make a plan to celebrate in your classroom or with your team using our collection of videos, posters, and literature. We also encourage you to take action by considering your recruiting and mentoring practices. It is not enough for coaches to simply say anyone can join the speech and debate team. Coaches must also actively recruit Black students and foster anti-racist teams.
Our free NSDA Learn course Engaging and Mentoring Black/African American Students features distinct strategies for engaging and mentoring Black students as a Black coach and as a non-Black coach. Learn to intentionally recruit Black/African American students (and assistant coaches and judges!), create solid parent-coach connections, build an anti-racist team, advocate for students, recognize race while coaching, and build equitable relationships.
