Announcing our 2021-2022 Leading Chapters
Each year, the top chapter in accumulated members and degrees in each district receives the Leading Chapter award. The winning school's total returns to zero and it begins a new record. Congratulations to the winners for the 2021-2022 school year! Advisors and administrators will receive letters of congratulations. The Leading Chapter award is given out by the district chair as part of the district tournament series.

We’ve created a central hub to answer your questions about how topics are generated throughout the school year—and ways you can get involved in the process! The hub includes:
-
How are potential topics, prompts, and legislation written?
- How do I suggest a debate topic/resolution for consideration by a wording committee?
- Who selects the topics, prompts, and legislation used in competition?
Member coaches and alums are encouraged to self-nominate to serve on one of our topic wording committees. Committees will either work on topics for the 2023 National Tournament or write potential resolutions for the 2023-2024 season. The work of these groups generally will be completed between March 1 and May 1, 2023. PF and LD committees may continue working into June.

Ideas for Running Practices
Our practice collection includes drills and practice activities sourced from coaches and students across the country. Focus in on specific skills like delivery, prep, strategy, memorization, characterization, movement, and more. This is a great tool for peer coaches and independent student learning! Have an activity to share? Please submit it!
Take your practice online with our Springboard Series! There are four free, online practice rounds per month and they take place after school at 6:00 p.m. CT with live judges and ballots. These are ideal practice sessions for speech and debate students who want to build their confidence in competing while also receiving real feedback from judges across the nation. NSDA membership is not required for participation thanks to the generosity of The Julia Burke Foundation. Learn more and register today »

Earning Points for Scrimmages
Remember, students may still earn up to 75 merit points for intrasquad and intersquad competitions that do not have the required four schools participating. Tabulation software and the NSDA site will not regulate this; it will be the affirmative duty of coaches to ensure what is posted is in line with this rule.
