Purgatorio: A Journey into the Heart of the Border

Edward Wright Rodrigo Reyes, Film director

Reyes is a 2017 John Simon Guggenheim Fellow and awardwinning filmmaker. His presentation will focus on the immigrant experience and challenge preconceived notions of the US-Mexico border. He is the grandson of migrant farmworkers from Michoacán, and was raised between Mexico and the United States. His visceral and beautiful films explore the fractures separating these two worlds. Reception following talk.

The infectious indie mambo band Orkesta Mendoza mixes a multitude of Latin styles like cumbia, merengue and ranchera through a psychedelic mambo and post-punk prism, creating a truly one-of-a-kind sound.
Las Cafeteras fuses Afro-Mexican, hip hop, folk, and native American styles into a vibrant, socially conscious vibe all their own.
