National Civility Month is a time to celebrate and recognize the importance of civil behavior in our communities. Civility encourages harmony, empathy, and kindness, and paves the way for more positive connections personally and professionally.

Black Business Month 2026 runs throughout August, celebrating Black entrepreneurs and their impact on the U.S. economy.
|
The International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition is commemorated annually on August 23. It marks the historic uprising in Saint Domingue (now Haiti) that helped end the transatlantic slave trade.
|
Women's Equality Day is on August 26, marking the adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment, which prohibits states and the federal government from preventing women from voting. Women gained the right to vote in 1920. However, in most parts of the country, Native American, Asian American, Black women, and Latina women were largely excluded from the ballot box at the time the 19th Amendment was passed until each group gained access to voting in the succeeding decades.

Located on the second floor of the University Center, the Campus Inclusion and Community Center supports our mission by offering a welcoming space where students, faculty, and staff can gather, learn, and build relationships. The center promotes belonging, collegiality, and cultural engagement in alignment with Strategic Plan Pillar 2. The space is open Monday–Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and all are welcome.
