New endowed faculty chair announced. Last week, at a special Asian Studies Celebration, Puget Sound announced the creation of The Suzanne Wilson Barnett Chair of Contemporary China Studies, made possible by The Trimble Foundation. Named for Professor Emerita of History Suzanne Wilson Barnett, the position will help expand the Asian Studies Program and give Loggers new opportunities for research abroad and transpacific partnerships.
Congratulations to the Class of 2018! This weekend is Commencement Weekend, when we celebrate the members of our newest graduating class. All are welcome to attend the Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 13, at 2 p.m., in Baker Stadium, where the university will award an honorary degree to Sally Jewell, former U.S. secretary of the interior and former president and CEO of REI. Student and faculty speakers named for Commencement Weekend events. Grace Friedman ’18 will deliver the student address, "Building Runways and Taking Flight," and Professor of Music Geoffrey Block will deliver the faculty address, "By Your Pupils You'll Be Taught," at Academic Convocation, on Saturday, May 12, at 2 p.m., in Schneebeck Concert Hall. Jordan Fonseca ’18 will be the Commencement student speaker on Sunday.

Blow your horn. Registration is open for Puget Sound Brass Camp for brass players ages 12 to 19 with two or more years of playing experience.
