Dear NYU Steinhardt Community,
This weekend, NYU President Andrew Hamilton shared a statement on Tyre Nichols, in which he expressed grief and outrage over Nichols’ death and shared resources available to students and employees. I share in his sadness over this senseless tragedy and encourage you to read his statement in full.
At this time, I also write to share two events that seek to honor the life of Tyre Nichols and to center the healing of Black NYU community members in this difficult time.

Healing Space Centering Black NYU Community Members
Thursday, February 2
7 – 8 p.m. ET
Navigating the world's climates as a person of color, and particularly as a Black person, is sometimes challenging. As a result, there is often a need for radical commitment to individual and communal care. Join us for this processing space created for intentional healing, self-love, and community care that centers the experiences of Black communities at NYU. This space features a healing circle of meditation, poetry, and music.
This space will be held by NYU's Center for Global Spiritual Life and Office of Global Inclusion, Diversity, and Strategic Innovation. Please note that this program centers the lived experiences of Black students, staff, and faculty.
