NYU Shanghai in WatercolorSissi Wang Xiya ā26 knew she wanted to journal her college journey, but it wasnāt until studying away at NYU in New York City during her junior year that the Finance major and Mathematics minor from Shanghai finally began her watercolor series äøēŗ½Ā·ē» In Lines, We Lived at NYU Shanghai. The series of color-drenched paintings showcases her personal experiences across the two campuses.

ā¢Ā Last Friday, Verbalux, a new interactive installation designed by IMA Assistant Arts Professor Andy Garcia in collaboration with Spanish artist Miguel Moreno Mateos, was unveiled at the IMA Art Gallery (N306). The machine analyzes public content, for example speeches by world leaders or CEOs, tracking which words are repeated or deliberately avoided ā and then engraves them onto stone in real time using a laser. The work questions whether a wordās meaning can truly be preserved, revealing how repetition can both reinforce and erode language in an age shaped by digital power and artificial intelligence.

Dance With Me
Maxwell Cowan ā26 dances with a robot at an event led by renowned dancer and choreographer Tian Qing, who was associate director of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Participants discovered the dancer within, watching as their own shadow mirrored, responded to, and intertwined with Tian Qingās choreography in real-time, blurring the line between the physical body and its digital reflection.Ā

Their research, published in the Cell Press journal Chem, provides a simple and reversible method for forming crystals that can be used to develop a new generation of adaptable materials. The researchers found a simple and powerful way to control particles and form crystals: illuminating them.
