MAG HONORS REP. SHARON COOPER WITH ITS FIRST ‘HALL OF FAME’ AWARD
ATLANTA – The Medical Association of Georgia (MAG) honored Rep. Sharon Cooper (R-Marietta) as the first recipient of its Hall of Fame Award during the organization’s House of Delegates (HOD) meeting on Jekyll Island on October 20.
“Representative Cooper has been an effective and unwavering champion for patients and physicians in Georgia for more than 20 years,” says MAG Council on Legislation Chair W. Scott Bohlke, M.D. “As the long-time chair of the House Health and Human Services Committee, she has sponsored key legislation – including an HIV screening bill for pregnant women, the Georgia’s Smoke Free Air Act, and the Health Share Volunteers in Medicine Act.”
Newly-installed MAG President Rutledge Forney, M.D., adds that, “Year-after-year, Representative Cooper has demonstrated tremendous vision and leadership in her efforts to promote patient-centered medical care and a sustainable, physician-led health care system.”
Dr. Forney concludes that, “Representative Sharon Cooper is a lawmaker who is driven by what’s right – a principled leader who patients and physicians can always count on.”
Rep. Cooper was married to the late Tom Cooper, M.D., who co-founded MAG’s ‘Doctor of the Day’ program at the State Capitol.
More than 200 physicians were on hand for the HOD, which is MAG’s policy-making body.
Rep. Cooper represents Georgia’s 43rd District, which includes portions of Cobb County.
