Annual Meeting 2021 Recap
March once again came in with a “roar” as the Annual TIPQC Meeting featured wonderful presenters, great conversations & sharing! The virtual meeting attended by over 450 physicians, nurses, healthcare workers and other stakeholders, featured three days of talks around QI projects, health disparities and COVID-19.
Speakers included: Commissioner Lisa Piercey, MD focusing on the Successes of the Past Year; Michael Warren, MD, MPH from Maternal & Child Health Bureau, US Department of Health & Human Services addressing national and state efforts to improve health outcomes for moms and babies; Dena Goffman, MD from Sloan Hospital for Women, NY Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University Medical Center discussing health equity along with Deputy Commissioner Morgan McDonald, MD, from the Tennessee Department of Health; Wanda Barfield, MD, MPH from the CDC reviewed the new changes to Opioids and Perinatal Quality Care; Tricia Wright, MD from University of California, San Francisco spoke around the importance of screening pregnant women for substance use disorder; Stephen Patrick, MD, MPH from the Vanderbilt Center for Child Health Policy discussed recent findings of the Impact of COVID-19 on Tennessee moms and children & Opioid Use Disorder Updates; KK Dixon, National Preeclampsia Foundation Spokesperson; Laura Vandernoot Lipsky, founder of the Trauma Stewardship Institute, encouraged self-care; Mark Hudak, MD from the National AAP & the University of Florida, Deputy Commissioner Morgan McDonald, MD & Lizzie Harvey, PhD, MPH, The Tennessee Department of Health, and Connie Graves, MD, St. Thomas Midtown & Danielle Tate, MD, Regional One Health discussed the impact of COVID-19 on maternal and infant health.
Workshops focused on QI Projects: Opioid Use Disorder in Pregnancy, Opioid Exposed Newborns, Severe Maternal Hypertension, Safe to Sleep, and other topics of interest including Maternal Hemorrhage, Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders, POST-BIRTH Warning Signs, NARCAN Training, and Universal Screening for Hepatitis C. Workshop speakers included Susan Hwang, MD, MPH, PhD from University of Colorado; Jimmy Carlucci, MD from Indiana University; Eleni Tsigas from the National Preeclampsia Foundation; Anne Santa-Donato, MS from AWHONN; Julia Wood, MD, and Monti Herring, Regional Prevention Overdose Specialist.
Additional meetings were held with the Tennessee Mother’s Milk Bank and the Tennessee Breastfeeding Coalition.
