March 27, 2018 | A weekly publication of the National Speech & Debate Association

Dear Coach,

Don't miss your chance to share info about your program that will net you a copy of the results, fundraising support, and possibly prizes!

Fundraising Support + a Chance to Win Big

We are always working to help the speech and debate community. One way we do this is by providing information and resources. In this spirit, we’ve teamed up with Edco, our online fundraising partner, to understand more about your program, fundraising needs, and why you think speech and debate is so valuable for students. Thanks in advance for your participation in the survey below.

Help Yourself, Help the Community » Edco will share results and insights on the best way to fundraise and gain school district support for your speech and debate programs. Every speech and debate team will be able to use the results to make the job of gaining support easier and more effective.

Chance to Win » As a thank you for your time, any surveys submitted by April 11, 2018 will be automatically entered into a drawing to win a FREE Team Resource Package for the 2018-2019 school year, a Words Matter sweatshirt, and other fun and useful NSDA items.
BONUS: $25 Credit » Edco also wants to support your team! Anyone who fills out the survey and creates (or already has) an Edco account before June 30, 2018, will earn a $25 credit on the first $500 they raise. Not sure how to set up an account? Click here

Recognize a Great Coach or Principal

Time is running out to nominate an oustanding coach or principal for a national award! We are still accepting nominations for the High School Coach of the Year Award and the Middle School Coach of the Year Award. Please consider nominating a deserving peer! Plus, if your principal is an outspoken advocate for your program, we encourage you to nominate them for either the High School Principal of the Year Award or the Middle School Principal of the Year Award.
Be sure to review the criteria online and start gathering both letters of recommendation before the April 6 deadline!

Session Spotlight: Big Fish, No Pond

Whether you’re new to teaching or just new to a district, you don't want to miss Big Fish, No Pond: Teaching Debate in Isolated Regions. This session at the NSDA National Conference is for those rogue debate coaches operating in isolated regions and communities who want to connect students into the national Policy Debate circuit. Whether it be a lack of competition, professional contacts, or even a lack of student diversity, coaches will benefit from this session through a dialogue with like-minded coaches and opportunities to problem solve with colleagues. Along with this forum, facilitators Chris Flowers and Rosie Valdez will share valuable information for ambitious educators looking to make a big impact with limited resources.
The second annual NSDA National Conference will be held July 28-31 and will feature more than 40 engaging sessions that support our theme of Radiant Voices: Empowerment through Speech and Debate. To view more sessions or to register, visit www.speechanddebate.org/conferences
