Self Help IT Tips Before & During Christmas Break

Like most University offices, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) will be closed for the Christmas and New Year holidays beginning Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2025 through Friday, Jan. 2, 2026.

Find out what steps you can take with IT services and your devices and before and during the holiday break. Plus, how you can find answers to any IT questions or issues you may have while you’re away.

You are invited to learn how to manage change the “Lasso Way” at the next Change Management Community of Practice (COP) session via Zoom.

Move beyond traditional change strategies and discover how to lead change with heart in this session inspired by the hit television show Ted Lasso. Explore powerful, human-centered strategies for building belief, engaging skeptical colleagues with curiosity, and fostering resilience when faced with setbacks.

Patch Saturday & Tahoe Reminder

Mac & Windows OS Updates Scheduled for Dec. 6

University-managed Mac and Windows devices will receive a new set of updates on Saturday, Dec. 6. Keep your device powered on when you leave work Friday, Dec. 5.

For Windows computers: If you are unable to leave your computer on Dec. 5, run the update at your convenience by following these instructions.
For Mac computers: In addition to the standard OS patching, the deadline for installing MacOS Tahoe (Version 26) is also Dec. 6. You can do this yourself at any time beforehand. It takes about 45 minutes to install. If you are unable to install it before this date, it will automatically install the next time your computer is turned on.

🚧 December IT Maintenance

On Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. (ET), Office of Information Technology (OIT) will perform various maintenance activities that may affect IT services you use. A list of the affected services is available in this OIT news story.

Spring Semester Start-up Sessions

Registration Open for Teaching Well with Technology Mini-Conference Jan. 6-8

Don't miss the popular Faculty Teaching Well with Technology Semester Start-up mini-conference after Christmas break. It is designed for faculty members, TAs and those who support them.

DATE & TIME: January 6-8, 2026, 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.

LOCATION: L068 Mendoza College of Business

Sessions will cover Canvas integrations, discussions and presentations on how to use AI for teaching, and hands-on Adobe workshops. Attend as many sessions as you wish. Breakfast snacks, coffee and lunch are provided.

If you are interested in attending, register early using this Google Form as space is limited! You will receive a Calendar invitation for the sessions you sign up for. Registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 19.

Drive Sharing Permissions Change

Earlier this year, Google announced it would update access in Drive. Introduced in September, 2025, this update eliminated restricting access on specific files and folders within a shared folder.

Limited access is now managed via the limited access folder setting. Those with permission to restrict access on the parent folder will no longer see the “update item only” option, and those without permission will see certain options grayed out.

New Condensed Version History in Sheets

Google introduced a new condensed view for version history in Sheets. By default, Sheets will now only show rows with cells that had changes in the selected version. The condensed version history will help users identify relevant edits to the sheet more quickly and efficiently. Some embedded objects, like images, may not display when the condensed view is on.

Version history can help you recover information, understand changes, or see who made a specific edit to a spreadsheet. To return to the previous version history, where the entire sheet is displayed and the cells with changes are highlighted, simply check “Show unmodified rows.”
