Weekly Coach Newsletter

September 13, 2017 |  A weekly publication of the National Speech & Debate Association

Dear Coach,

This week we bring you a new resource collection, tips for managing your roster, and much more!

Lincoln-Douglas Teacher in a Box

We're excited to announce the Lincoln-Doulgas Teacher in a Box! Members have access to our new lesson plans designed for novice students or coaches. Lessons include links to webinars, handouts, and extended materials. Check out the overview here. Introducing debate to the classroom just got easier!

National Conference Topics

We're still flying high from our inaugural conference! As we begin planning the 2018 National Conference, we'd love to hear from you. To share what topics you'd like to see covered in Phoenix, click here. Your feedback helps us choose a theme, select presenters, and so much more.

Renewal Reminder

Chapter advisors, don't forget to activate your 2017-2018 membership now to access resources and build your program! The renewal process has never been easier. Just log into your account by visiting www.speechanddebate.org/account and select Renew Now. You must visit your account page to get things going, even if you elected to use a Nationals judge bond for school dues, or plan to request or send in a purchase order.

Access Your Resources

As a member, you have access to great resources for both you and your students! Check out what's new this week or click here to explore more.
Membership Certificate Replacements
If your membership certificates were damaged or destroyed by the widespread flooding and damage from Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma, we will replace them free of charge. Please complete this form to request your replacements. We will send out replacement certificates requested in September beginning in October, and after that once a month as part of our regular certificate mailings.
Up to $100K from Reserved Big Questions Tournaments
In order to ensure that programs affected by the hurricanes have access to as many fundraising opportunities as possible, we have reserved 100 Big Questions tournament slots for impacted schools. These spots will be held until January 8, 2018. If you have questions, or would like to claim a tournament, please email Katie Hines

Adding Students to Your Roster

To add students to your team, click School Roster in the left navigation bar of your account. Selecting "Add a Student" at the top will bring up boxes to provide the student's name, email, and grad year. Then click "Add."
When you are ready to make the student a member, just click "Buy" to the right of their name in the Member column of the roster. Students with check marks in that column are already members. After the student's membership is paid for, they will have online access to the level of resources the school selected during renewal (Member or Resource Package), and they will receive a membership certificate. This process is no longer dependent on earning 25 points, so advisors will have more control over when they pay for student memberships. Note: 25 points are still required to earn a Degree of Merit, and to be eligible for district competition.
Students can also request to be added to a school through their online account. Advisors will approve those pending requests using the "View Requests" button. Students who are already on the roster will be handled by "merging" the student, and students who are not listed on the roster should be "created." (See example below.)
