How is your Meeting Staying Centered with all the Tumult in the World? Jan 16th Coffee Hour |
BYM Ministry & Pastoral Care Committee invites Friends to a Coffee Hour on January 16th from 7pm - 8pm for worship sharing on the question, How is your Meeting staying centered with all the tumult in the world? BYM Ministry & Pastoral Care coffee hours enable sharing among local meetings and helps the Yearly Meeting get a sense of the concerns and joys among Friends in our region. Often, what we learn helps BYM Ministry & Pastoral Care design workshops for Annual Session and other support for Monthly Meetings. All Friends are welcome at the Coffee Hour, and we especially invite Monthly Meeting Clerks as well as members of Meeting Ministry & Counsel/Pastoral Care Committees to join.

Jesus in the Rubble at Homewood Meeting
|
HLast December, the Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem (West Bank) installed a creche scene depicting the Christ child in a destroyed home in Gaza. Pastor Munther Isaac, gave an extraordinary sermon on the crisis in Gaza which can be heard at this link. The full text of the sermon can be accessed here. Homewood Friends Peace and Social Justice Committee has placed an installation in our lobby, depicting “Jesus in the Rubble – Remember the Children of Gaza." A full year later, we are reminded that Palestinians in Gaza continue to suffer unthinkable conditions with the ongoing bombardment.

| Resources for Year-End Giving for Reparations
|
Friends have asked members of the Reparations Action Working Group (RAWG) to suggest organizations that BYM Friends can give to, so have put together a very short list of organizations that have the goal of addressing harms of racism, both in the goal of their work and in how the organization is structured. And we’d like to recommend Rev Robert Turner’s book, Creating a Culture of Repair: taking action on the road to reparations. It’s a very hopeful book with plenty of ideas of taking action right now to make changes that are meaningful and lasting. The book is available online and we hope in stores, too.
