I am so proud of La Michoacana Purepecha for opening up in the Ninth Ward! As small business owners, Ricardo and Jazmin worked hard to start this venture. Like many, they faced challenges. I was glad to be able to help them connect with our City's Community Planning and Economic Development (CPED) Department for support. Thank you to our CPED Director David Frank, Judy Moses and Daniel Bonilla who are CPED staff for helping this business get through it's final stage. Come check out this paleteria and cool off with some of the best paletas (popsicles), helado (ice cream), raspados (snow cones), and agua fresca (freshly made juice) at the corner of Park Avenue and East Lake Street.
Dear Community,
Summer is in full swing and the ballot box may be the last thing on your mind - but early voting for the August 14th primary is only 34 days away! Our City Elections Staff are hard at work at the Early Voting Center at 217 South 3rd Street. It is open weekdays and Saturdays the two weeks before election day. Find all of the information that you need to vote early on the City's website.
Whether you vote early downtown or at your normal polling location on election day on Tuesday, August 14th, I hope you will vote and encourage many of your neighbors, friends, and family to do the sam!
Happy Voting,
You've read a lot in this space before about the vital update to our City's Comprehensive Plan. A first draft of the plan has been available and open for comment for the last few months and the comment period is closing on July 22nd.
Help your neighbors and get paid!  There’s a shortage of Election Judges this year for the August 14 Primary—please consider signing up to work at one of your neighborhood polling places. Election Judges earn $15.75 per hour or more, and can work a full day (6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.) or one of the half shifts (6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.), with some breaks included.

Please apply online as soon as possible so you can get an assignment and get signed up for one of the three hour paid training sessions.  You must be an eligible Minnesota voter, but no experience is necessary.

Apply online today or call 612-673-3870 for more info and assistance in signing up.
The 35W@94 (transit access) project is well under way. Our neighborhood is already being impacted by closures and increased bus traffic.

Housing is a basic human need. New developments and “affordable housing” are anything but affordable. Buying a home can take a long time and isn’t always accessible to everyone. What is to be done?

The Central Area Neighborhood Development Organization welcomes community members to join them as they review their past work and utilize your input to create a plan to reach the goal of permanent affordable housing in the Central Neighborhood!
