Ambassador and SIS professor Tony Wayne and Ambassador Piper Campbell, Chair of the Foreign Policy & Global Security department, will moderate the discussion and audience Q&A. A reception featuring Filipino food will follow.

With a new Trump administration, there will be no shortage of significant challenges for the transatlantic partnership, such as the war in Ukraine, managing relations with China, or the conflict in the Middle East. H.E. Ralf Heckner, the Swiss Confederation’s Ambassador to the US and H.E. Petra Schneebauer, the Republic of Austria’s Ambassador to the US will cover these key topics and more. SIS professor Garret Martin will moderate the discussion, which will be followed by an audience Q&A.

Shaping the Future: US-Kurdistan-Iraq Relations Under the New Administration

How will the new US administration impact US-Kurdistan-Iraq dynamics? This timely discussion will focus on the complex ties between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi federal government. Erbil-Baghdad tensions, driven by financial and political disputes, impact Iraq’s stability and US interests. Dr. Hemin Hawrami, former Deputy Speaker of the Kurdistan Region Parliament, will examine what the new administration can do to resolve issues and promote collaboration between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. SIS professor Yerevan Saeed will moderate the discussion and audience Q&A. The event will conclude with a reception featuring Middle Eastern cuisine.

Post-Assad Syria: A Window of Hope or a New Crisis?

The Global Kurdish Initiative for Peace and the Department of Politics, Governance, and Economics (PGE) invite you to a discussion on Syria's future after Bashar al-Assad's regime. The event will explore potential paths for Syria, focusing on governance, minority and women's rights, regional relations, and the constitutional and political future. Key topics include federalism for Kurds in Northeastern Syria, its broader implications, and US strategic interests. The discussion will be moderated by SIS professor Yerevan Saeed. Book Launch: Strategy and Grand Strategy

SIS Department of Foreign Policy and Global Security Professor Joshua Rovner will discuss his new book, Strategy and Grand Strategy. Using studies from antiquity to the present, he will demonstrate vividly how these two concepts interact. Professor Rovner will also discuss the implications for war and peace at a time of extraordinary technological change.
