New ‘Top Docs’ addresses PhRMA’s efforts to combat COVID-19
The latest edition of the Medical Association of Georgia’s (MAG) ‘Top Docs’ show addresses what the U.S. biopharmaceutical industry is doing to combat COVID-19 – and it features Michael Ybarra, M.D., FACEP, FAPCR, a board-certified emergency physician who is a vice president and the chief of medical affairs at PhRMA, which “represents the country’s leading biopharmaceutical research companies and supports the search for new treatments and cures.”
Dr. Ybarra discusses…
– What the biopharmaceutical industry is doing to combat COVID-19
– Whether the industry is using any new methods to develop treatments and vaccines
– What unique challenges COVID-19 presents
– The collaborative efforts that are taking place within the industry
– What other stakeholders PhRMA is working with in the public and private sectors
– How the industry is balancing the need for speed and safety as it develops COVID-19 treatments
– What the industry is exploring beyond vaccines and treatments
– Some of the common concerns that patients and other stakeholders have about COVID-19
– How patients with serious diseases like cancer and mental health issues are being affected by COVID-19
– What action state and federal lawmakers and regulators should be taking
– The lessons that the industry has learned during the pandemic
Dr. Ybarra “leads stakeholder outreach on federal and international health policy issues [at PhRMA] and PhRMA’s internal and external medical affairs engagement.” It is also worth noting that he continues to work clinically in the Emergency Department at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
PhRMA’s mission is to “conduct effective advocacy for public policies that encourage the discovery of important, new medicines for patients by biopharmaceutical research companies.”
Between downloads and live listeners, ‘Top Docs’ has now reached more than 1.4 million listeners and viewers – which includes people in all 50 states and more than 80 countries.
