Spring has sprung and downtown is blooming with activity! The Downtown Tucson Partnership (DTP) and the University of Arizona Poetry Center are thrilled to kick off the spring season with the 5th annual Haiku Hike literary competition. At DTP's March Board Meeting, we announced that we were awarded the prestigious ADDY award from the American Advertising Federation. And another downtown icon is joining the 100-year club, with Southern Arizona's oldest and largest cultural institution kicking off its Centennial this weekend. We're sharing opportunities to get involved downtown including a mosaic tile project and a slew of events including the St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival this weekend! Winning Haiku On Display Beginning March 19

The DTP and the University of Arizona Poetry Center will soon unveil the 20 winning haiku in this year's Haiku Hike literary competition selected by Tucson's poet laureate, TC Tolbert. These haiku will be printed on acrylic signage and displayed in planters along Congress Street and Stone Avenue starting the first day of spring, Tuesday, March 19.

This year's theme is Serenity. The 5th annual competition received a record 2,069 haiku from 27 countries, 29 states, and 1,385 from Tucson. A map of the winning haiku will be available on March 19 on the Haiku Hike webpage.

DTP Recognized for Creative Marketing Campaign

The American Advertising Federation recognized the DTP with the silver American Advertising Award for the 2023 On-street Marketing Campaign. The campaign includes 200 street banners, 200 sidewalk decals, 300 planter signs and 38 Bigbelly trash compactors displaying 152 pieces of vinyl signage including a new user-friendly map of downtown. Funding for the campaign materials came from Pima County and Visit Tucson.

DTP Board Convenes Quarterly Meeting

The DTP Board of Directors met yesterday at the Pima County Historic Courthouse. Board Members received a presentation from the project leaders of Activate El Presidio, a CEO Report and DTP committee updates. View the recap here.

Tucson Museum of Art Celebrates 100 Years

The Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block (TMA) kicks off its Centennial with a sold out gala this weekend. TMA's Centennial also occurs during Women's History Month, a significant synchronicity, as leaders of the Arts Committee of the Tucson Woman’s Club met back in March of 1924 to establish what is now TMA.

A new exhibition celebrating this milestone, Time Travelers: Foundations, Transformations, and Expansions at the Centennial, is on display starting Sunday, March 17. Stay tuned for more TMA Centennial festivities throughout the year.

Be part of a new 6,000 sq. ft. event center in the heart of Downtown Tucson - The Grand Tucson (33 S. 6th Avenue)! Purchase a custom space here and your message will appear on a tile that will border a new Ben's Bells mosaic mural at the center's front entrance.

St. Patrick's Parade This Sunday🍀

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day at the 36th Annual Tucson St. Patrick's Day Parade & Festival this Sunday, March 17 at Armory Park. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. and the festival is from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. The Desert Leprechaun 5K and 1 Mile Run/Walk are happening before the parade.
