Don't miss Lights On TU this Friday!
The date for Lights On TU 2023 has been changed to Friday, Dec. 1, because of inclement weather in the forecast for Thursday evening.
You, your families, and your friends are invited to this annual holiday tradition from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday on Chapman Commons in front of Collins Hall when we illuminate the campus with 1 million lights.
We will have free food, cocoa, cider, coffee, cookies, and desserts. There will be stations for letters to Santa, make-your-own ornaments, DIY jingle bells, and s'mores. Santa will be on hand for photos, and a limited number of plush Goldie puppies will be available.
We apologize for any inconvenience the rescheduling may have caused and hope you are able to join us Friday evening as we welcome the weekend and usher in a happy holiday season.

Pitching for the prize
The University of Tulsa’s Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship and JOLT@TUBusiness recently hosted the inaugural Regent Bank Hurricane Pitch Competition, which awarded $25,000 is prize money to students who have created new businesses. The winning pitch was from Marama, led by Adriaan Lombard and James Higgs, both doctoral students in TU’s elite Cyber Fellows program. The team seeks to combat global food insecurity by introducing the marama bean as mainstream crop.

A club – in theory
TU’s Student Union buzzes as a diverse and eager group of college students and faculty, area high school students and teachers, and local lifelong learners convene to discuss the latest physics news. The TU Physics Journal Club has met almost every month during the academic year since 1997, totaling some 200 meetings. A typical evening includes dissecting two scientific articles over two hours with a free pizza perk. The meetings are open to the public, and the next one is set for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5.

Telling Woody’s tale
As director of the Woody Guthrie Center, Cady Shaw (BA ’99) makes facility decisions, meets with donors and members, oversees staff and their exhibit work, partners with other businesses, and so much more. And she appreciates being at the center of Tulsa’s Arts District. “TU alums are community-focused, and I think that speaks to TU’s influence of giving back to the community and creating the places that you want to be part of,” she said. “In my experience, TU graduates are dependable, creative, and passionate.”

Student Investment Fund pays it forward
One of the unique opportunities offered by The University of Tulsa’s Collins College of Business is the chance to partake in the Student Investment Fund, where business students get hands-on experience managing an investment portfolio built by past TU students over 25 years. Through buying and selling securities and learning about asset allocations, students apply financial theories and models and manage a real portfolio of financial assets. The fund is now valued at more than $6.4 million, one of the largest in the country.
