From tax law to immigration representation, education advocacy or overturning unjust sentences, our students are in court and at the negotiating table, fighting for clients who would otherwise not be able to afford representation. A recent report released by the Legal Services Corporation suggests that a majority of Americans wrongly believe they have the right to an appointed lawyer in civil cases. Our students know all too well that this right afforded to criminal defendants is not available to those who need the protection of our civil laws, whether they have been deprived of earned wages, discriminated against, or subject to fraud or other harms. We are grateful to our supporters and partners who make it possible for our students to address this justice gap.
