Public Safety Week Features Mandatory Evacuation/Fire Drill
Welcome to Public Safety Week! The mandatory annual evacuation drill will be held this Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 11:40 a.m. and 6:50 p.m. What to expect:
Morning Drill
- 11:40 a.m.: Notification of drill over the PA system
- 11:43 a.m.: All campus fire alarms activated; everyone evacuates buildings to designated safe zone areas with orange flags
(Please follow the instructions given by the floor wardens who will be wearing green vests) - 11:50-11:55 a.m.: Approximate completion time evidenced by cessation of alarms and air horn signal
Evening Drill
- 6:50 p.m.: Notification of drill over the Public Address System
- 6:53 p.m.: All campus fire alarms activated and everyone evacuating buildings to designated safe zone areas with orange flags (see below for details)
(Please follow the instructions given by the floor wardens who will be wearing green vests) - 7:05-7:10 p.m.: Approximate completion time evidenced by cessation of alarms and air horn signal
Designated Safe Zone Areas
Occupants from each of the following buildings should exit the building from the nearest exit or as indicated by building floor wardens and immediately proceed to the following locations:
- Esplanade
- Founders Hall, Casassa, Rains Library, Hall of the '70s, Parking Garage
- Basketball Court
- Burns, Merrifield, Donavan, Chapel, Dordick
Please note that there is always the possibility that the L.A. City Fire Department may be present to observe our drill as we are following their mandate for this process. Every individual’s participation is essential for us to avoid possible citations or fines for noncompliance.
In addition, the Great ShakeOut earthquake preparedness exercise will be held on Thursday, Oct. 16.
