For BTS Advisory Committee member Juliana Stein, going green is a year-round way of life for her family and her business: barre3 Bethesda.
Her eight-year-old boutique fitness studio offers balanced workouts combining strength, cardio and mindfulness. Each session is designed for all levels of fitness, giving clients the tools to live strong independent and vibrant lives one class at a time. Barre3 Bethesda is a single owned and operated franchise location in the heart of Bethesda’s Woodmont Triangle.
Stein has long been passionate about eco-living and eco-business. She started her career doing policy and communications work for various environmental NGOs when she first arrived in the area in the early 2000s. After having children, she branched out into group fitness and found herself falling in love with barre3 as a client at the barre3 Georgetown location. Her client journey led to her becoming an instructor and soon thereafter a studio owner.
After running the studio for a few years, she missed her connection with environmental causes, so when she learned about Bethesda Green’s revived certification program she quickly jumped on the opportunity to get involved. Earlier this year, barre3 Bethesda was recognized by Bethesda Green for having achieved Silver Level Green Business Certification from Montgomery County.
“As a small business owner, part of my mission is giving back to the community in any way I can,” said Stein. “Joining the BTS Advisory Committee at the end of 2023 has been a great opportunity to lean into that commitment and make a positive impact.”
Stein said she loves Bethesda’s mix of urban and family residential and its diverse demographic, which has attracted a lot of new “amazing shops and apartment buildings.”
“I’ve really felt welcomed as I’ve grown my business here over the years and connected with other business owners through the Chamber and through Bethesda Urban Partnership.”
Stein and her family live right off the Capital Crescent Trail, which allows her to easily bike to work as well as ride down the trail for fun and exercise. She also enjoys participating in Bike to Work Day each spring, incentivizing her studio clients to do the same.
“The CCT is a real asset for this community, and biking is really central to getting around here, so that’s been an important focus for me on the Advisory Committee,” she said. “And everything in downtown Bethesda is also conducive to public transportation.”
Healthy living is not only eco-conscious but also aligns with her business, which she said is “thriving and supporting people in their wellness journeys.” Find barre3 Bethesda at 4829 Cordell Avenue — located next to Bethesda Green, which she has worked with closely in achieving her Green Business Certification.
