As we kick off the academic year here at Vanderbilt and look forward to new research discoveries and community connections, we are also looking back 25 years to the founding of our institute. VINSE was founded in December 2001 with Vanderbilt Academic Venture Capital Funds. Over the past two decades, we have dramatically grown our capabilities, our community, and our impact in research, immersive education, and STEM outreach. In celebration of our 25th anniversary, we invited back several VINSE alumni to our colloquium series - please join us to hear about their remarkable accomplishments and research pursuits.
Looking ahead to the future, we are excited to be commencing the construction phase that will transform the BioBay at the far end of the cleanroom into a best-in-class ancient DNA laboratory. The clean air and controlled environment will allow researchers to study how diseases evolve over time. This cleanroom renovation is another example of how VINSE continues to expand its collaborative footprint across disciplines.

Ancient DNA Research Coming to VINSE

Ancient DNA research is coming to VINSE! The BioBay in the VINSE cleanroom is being renovated to support DNA extraction from ancient remains while minimizing contamination from modern DNA. The new lab will support Vanderbilt’s Program in Health over Time (HoT), helping researchers explore how diseases have evolved and what the past can teach us about future healthcare challenges.
