A Creative Approach
As Collins Memorial Library’s fine and performing arts librarian, Angela Weaver manages the university’s collection of books, multimedia, and research materials to help students and faculty inform their creative practice. An advocate of increasing the diversity of library staff and expanding the reach of the library’s resources, Weaver also was recently appointed to the Tacoma Arts Commission. We sat down with her to discuss the new role and her own creative pursuits.

FIVE QUESTIONS WITH LIBRARIAN ANGELA WEAVER

HACKS & CHOPS Kenley Borgerson ’22 and Hugh Schmidt ’21 both wrote articles published in the latest issue of the UCLA Journal of Religion. Borgerson, a double major in religious studies and environmental policy and decision making, with a minor in science, technology, and society, wrote on “Wallada and Hafsa: Gender and Mobility Through Medieval Andalusian Poetry” (pg. 78). Schmidt’s piece (pg. 106) focused on “Religious Dimensions of Kurdish Environmentalism.” Schmidt majored in religious studies and minored in history.

Chinese New Year spring festival couplets

A New Year Tradition Professor of Art and Art History Zaixin Hong demonstrates the custom of writing spring festival couplets during the Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration last week. A common tradition to help celebrate Chinese New Year, the decorative couplets often hang on families’ front doors or door frames and express delight in the spring festival and wishes for a prosperous new year.
