» Garth. Is. Back. "It's a day of joy," Garth Brooks said at the outset of this morning's press conference. "Not going to be lying to you, it's also under a cloud right now." The silver lining is new music on a new label – Sony – and a tour. "I've never had more fun in my life making music," Brooks said. A single will probably be released before the end of the month, with his new double album expected around Thanksgiving. For the first time, Garth will make his music available for digital download, exclusively at garthbrooks.com.

The U.S. tour will be announced July 15, and Brooks has big plans. "We hope we give you a show that makes you forget the ones in the '90s," he said. "That is our goal." Speaking to the cloud he referenced in the open, he said, "Ireland? I don't have a clue. I wish I could tell you I saw it coming." Brooks even offered to fly to Ireland immediately and "get on my knees and beg" if the Prime Minister would meet with him.

Before the event got underway, a train sounded its horn behind the venue. It was a fitting metaphor for the train that is now underway and on its way through country music. "Scared? Yes," Brooks said. "Old? Yes. I want to thank God and everybody that has given me the chance to look at the second half of a career. I don't know how many artists get this chance."

» Party On, Garth? Just when you thought the story was over for Garth Brooks' five sold-out-then-canceled shows in Ireland, the G-man dangles a new carrot of hope in front of the 400,000 fans left in the cold. "Our guys are still en route and if there is any chance that the five planned concerts can be salvaged and nobody is being let down then we can proceed as planned until the refunds begin," Brooks writes in a letter to promoter Peter Aiken published in the Irish Independent. "If you think that for any reason that the ‘powers that be’ in Ireland can fix this, then I will faithfully go to the last second." Meanwhile, Ticketmaster has brought in extra staff to handle the unprecedentedly large refund process, beginning Monday (7/14), which is expected to incur a significant cost. More on the refunds here. Read Brooks' full letter here.
