At Endicott College, the Office of Sustainability strives to reduce the campus' impact in terms of carbon emissions and waste reduction; decrease operating costs through more efficient and sustainable operations; and make sure our students are educated global citizens as they prepare to leave the Nest for their next adventure. From April 18–22, we will celebrate Earth Week in recognition of the work we have done so far to make our campus more sustainable, and the work we have yet to do.
Over the course of the 2022–23 academic year, a dedicated team of faculty, staff, and students has been developing the Endicott’s first Campus Sustainability Plan, which will set forth structured goals for the College to reach towards true sustainability—we are excited to place this plan in action.
In the meantime, some of our proudest accomplishments include:
- Sourcing 13% of the campus’s energy needs from renewable energy provided by the nearly 1.5 MW of solar power located on campus,
-
Diverting about 50% of campus waste from the landfill via recycling and composting
- Securing close to $300,000 worth of annual energy savings and incentives from efficiency projects
- Connecting countless students with local sustainability-related employers, initiatives, education, and opportunities
We are proud to be part of a community who strives to create the positive economic, social, and environmental changes needed to ensure our planet and way of life is maintained for future generations of Gulls. Thank you for supporting our sustainable efforts on campus and beyond. Stay tuned in the upcoming weeks to learn about Earth Week events happening April 18–22, and how you can get involved.

Great Gull Gem | Jayra Bray '21 |
Growing up as a self proclaimed “tall girl”, Jayra Bray '21, was always told that she should either play basketball or go into modeling. Though she had always felt comfortable in front of the camera, it wasn’t until her senior year at Endicott that her modeling career started to take off.
Jayra does not point to any one thing that inspired her to start pursuing a career in modeling, but rather that it has always just felt right to her. And while the modeling world can be competitive, her goal is to show others, like her younger sisters, that just because you are from a small town doesn’t mean you should not work hard to achieve your dreams, no matter how lofty they may seem. Throughout her time at Endicott she developed relationships with faculty and staff members that believed in her dream and as she puts it, “they pushed me to become the best person I could be.”
While she has only been modeling full time for two years, she already sees it as a lifelong career. “I have grown so much not only mentally but into my physical body as well which has been amazing to look back and realize, because that has always been a challenge for me. Being able to fully express myself in different ways and creating art with other creatives is an amazing feeling,” says Jayra.
Most recently, Jayra has walked in both London and New York Fashion Weeks, along with being published in multiple magazines, including the cover of Style Cruze.
