We hope you are staying safe and well. The Office of Environmental Justice (OEJ) team is writing to send you important updates and resources from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
We would like to share with you some time sensitive information on some upcoming DEP and EPA Environmental and Climate Justice Communities Grant Programs.

Invitation to Participate

The Climate Action for Environmental Justice Communities (CAEJC) project is designed to allow DEP to more proactively engage with Pennsylvania communities in developing a guide for the implementation of climate strategies for maximum benefit to EJ communities. This work will be primarily done by the Energy Programs Office (EPO) and will engage with communities facing environmental justice issues. CAEJC plans to hold six engagement sessions across the state; facilitated by a contractor. You’re invited to participate in the online survey here: PA DEP Review CAP EJ Communities. Remember to mark your calendars, invite a friend and join your nearest regional in person/virtual meeting. See below for details:

EJ Grants and Funding Opportunities

Did you know If your environmental improvement project needs funding, DEP can help? We offer 40 grant and rebate programs to support a range of projects to improve or protect the water, land, and air in Pennsylvania. Whether your scope is to serve your local community or more statewide efforts, one of our funding programs may be able to help. In addition, some programs give special consideration to applicants in environmental justice areas. Check out the PADEP Grants, Loans and Rebates webpage for more details.
The EPA is seeking public input on the new Environmental and Climate Justice (ECJ) Grant program! This program will distribute $3 billion in Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) funding through grants and technical assistance. This Request for Information related to the ECJ Grant Program, is seeking public input on multiple aspects of the program. The IRA ECJ Grant program public comments are due March 17.
The EPA is relaunching its National Environmental Justice Community Engagement calls as a first step towards reestablishing meaningful and engaging participation with community groups and the public. You can catch up on past recorded sessions and stay updated on upcoming sessions (March 21, April 18, and May 16) here. You can also watch the recorded session addressing the Environmental and Climate Justice Communities Grants Program.
The Environmental Justice Government-to-Government (EJG2G) Program (formerly known as the State Environmental Justice Cooperative Agreement program) will provide an estimated total of $70 million in funding. Of this, $20 million will be for State governments to be used in conjunction with CBO partners, $20 million will be for local governments with CBO partners, $20 million will be for Federally Recognized Tribal Nations with CBO partners, and $10 million will be for US territories and remote tribes w/ limited access to CBO partners. In total the Agency anticipates funding approximately 70 projects of up to $1 million each for a 3-year project. To apply for this opportunity, view the RFA on Grants.gov.  Applications packages must be submitted on or before April 14, 2023 at 11:59 PM (Eastern Time). Applicants should plan for projects to begin on December 1, 2023.
