You're one year from publication! |
Now is the perfect time to make sure your author website is up and running.
Your author website is essential for your friends and fans to find you and stay up-to-date on your work and events. If you already have one, update it with your forthcoming Red Hen Press book! If you don't, now is a great time to build one. There are many free or affordable options to create your own websites, or many resources to find website developers to create one for you. Some options can be found in the Additional Resources below!
Here are some key points to keep in mind when building a website:
|
-
Websites don't have to be fancy; we are really just hoping to have a central place to direct people to you. Our sales representatives also find it very helpful when authors have websites that they keep up-to-date with recent review quotes, news pieces, articles, or interviews you've taken part in, and any events that are on your schedule. Each website should have:
- An overview of your book(s), excerpts, and the story behind the book(s)
- Awards, reviews, and praise
- Exclusive content: short stories, videos
- Your bio and photo
- Your social networking information (include buttons that link visitors directly to your Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and/or Instagram pages)
- News (links to interviews and media appearances)
- Your speaking/event schedules
- Mailing list sign-up
- Contact information for you and your publishers
- Preorder links to your book’s listing on redhen.org, bookshop.org, indiebound.org, barnesandnoble.com, and amazon.com. (Preferably in that order, but at least with Amazon last and B&N second to last).
Please, don’t only link to Amazon. - Your blog, if applicable
-
When purchase links are ready (about 9 months before pub), list purchase links by being .com agnostic: List Amazon LAST (if at all). Try to list your favorite local bookstore first, then other links such as the Red Hen Press direct link, the Bookshop.org link, etc. If you do decide to list Amazon, make sure it's listed last. Indie bookstores will notice if you only list Amazon!

If you'd like any help or advice on your website, just let us know! Keep in mind that we're not website designers/developers ourselves, but we can point you in the direction of some great designers if you're looking!
|
You should be in touch with our Production and Editorial departments at this point, who will be working on all things manuscript and product-production! Our Editorial Associate, Annalisa Zox-Weaver, and our Production Associate Rebeccah Sanhueza will be communicating with you on copyediting and book design.
