Now is the Time to VOTE for Chicago’s Future
With the City of Chicago run-off election approaching on Tuesday, April 7th, I want to take this opportunity to stress to you, our members and supporters, how critical it is that you take the time to vote.
Voter turnout in the February mayoral election was 34%--a level of participation that does not reflect Chicagoans’ true love for the City.  We need to take action to spur economic recovery in our City and neighborhoods and counteract years of fiscal mismanagement, rising structural deficits, and high taxes.
Maybe you assume you’re unable to vote because you missed the March 10 registration deadline.  If that’s the case, think again.  Now through April 4, voters may register in person to vote for the first time, then immediately vote during that same visit as part of “Grace Period” voting.  To learn how to vote during Grace Period, click here.
In addition to Grace Period, early voting begins March 23 and runs through April 4.  You can request an absentee ballot to vote online or by mail during that time.  For more information about early voting, absentee voting, polling locations, or any other voting resource you need, please visit our Election Information Center
I encourage you to share this voting information with your friends, family and colleagues. There are two candidates from which to choose.  Learn more about the candidates at www.chicagotogether.org and www.chicagoforchuy.com.  This election will determine the future of the City of Chicago.  As citizens it is our civic responsibility to participate in the election process.

Sincerely,

Theresa E. Mintle

Growing, Philanthropic Small Businesses: We Want You to Apply for the 2015 Jim Tyree Award
Eve Tyree with John Roa at last year's Annual Meeting.
Just before we announced the winner of the 2014 Jim Tyree Award at our Annual Meeting last June, John Roa was “preparing himself for a congratulatory handshake with the winner, not an acceptance speech.” Instead, the founder and CEO of ÄKTA heard his name called as the recipient of the award.
Roa and ÄKTA (which made its debut on the Inc. 500 list just a couple months after the award was presented) exemplify what the Jim Tyree Award is all about: Chicago, leadership, philanthropy and growth. Don’t take our word for it; read this excellent blog post by Roa, where he reflects on the legacy of Jim Tyree and what winning the award meant to him and his company.
This year, we are extremely excited to once again partner with Mesirow Financial to bring you the 2015 James Tyree Emerging Business Leadership Award. The award, which includes $25,000 in cash and valuable small business training and consulting, is given annually to a Chicagoland high-growth small business that best represents the spirit and values of the late Chicagoland Chamber Chairman and business leader, James Tyree.
If you are part of a growing business that advocates for Chicago and displays integrity, philanthropy, humor, humility, and generosity, we want to hear from you. We hope to work with you to help your company become a successful pillar of our business community for years to come.
