Just before we announced the winner of the 2014 Jim Tyree Award at our Annual Meeting last June, John Roa was “preparing himself for a congratulatory handshake with the winner, not an acceptance speech.” Instead, the founder and CEO of ÄKTA heard his name called as the recipient of the award.
Roa and ÄKTA (which made its debut on the Inc. 500 list just a couple months after the award was presented) exemplify what the Jim Tyree Award is all about: Chicago, leadership, philanthropy and growth. Don’t take our word for it; read this
excellent blog post by Roa, where he reflects on the legacy of Jim Tyree and what winning the award meant to him and his company.
This year, we are extremely excited to once again partner with Mesirow Financial to bring you the
2015 James Tyree Emerging Business Leadership Award. The award, which includes $25,000 in cash and valuable small business training and consulting, is given annually to a Chicagoland high-growth small business that best represents the spirit and values of the late Chicagoland Chamber Chairman and business leader, James Tyree.
If you are part of a growing business that advocates for Chicago and displays integrity, philanthropy, humor, humility, and generosity, we want to hear from you. We hope to work with you to help your company become a successful pillar of our business community for years to come.
