Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15 – October 15, starting on September 15 with a Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff! on the Green. The Hispanic population of the United States is 70.1 million, making it the nation’s largest racial or ethnic minority, at 21% of the total population. September 15 honors the independence anniversaries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, with Mexico, Chile, and Belize celebrating shortly after.

September also celebrates Labor Day (September 7, University Closed) and acknowledges Suicide Prevention Month. Join us for the Suicide Prevention Month Mass of Remembrance on September 17. Join us as we pray and remember all those we have loved and lost. September 17 is Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, an American federal observance that recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution and those who have become U.S. citizens. Campus Inclusion wraps up its Americana Exhibit with tributes to Labor Day and September 11 (Patriots Day). Observed on the first Monday in September, Labor Day is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. The holiday is rooted in the late nineteenth century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America's strength, prosperity, and well-being.

Marking the start of the Jewish year 5,787, Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Friday, September 11 and ends at nightfall on Sunday, September 2026.

Yom Kippur begins at sundown on Sunday, September 20, and ends at nightfall on Monday, September 21. This holiest day in Judaism spans roughly 25 hours of fasting, prayer, and repentance.
